He owns 120 acres, valued at $40 per acre. Married Eliza A. DUNN in Feb., 1859; she was born in 1841, in Knox CO., Ohio; have four children-Charles S., Harry E., Grace L. and Grant Wilson. Mr. A. represented Jasper County in the 12th General Assembly in 1868; prior to this, he was a member of the County Board of Supervisors for three years; is Justice of the Peace; has held this office about eight years. Members of the M. E. Church; Republican. Enlisted in 1862, in Co. K, 28th Iowa Inf.; served to the close of the war; participated in the battle of Champion Hills, siege of Vicksburg, Sabine Cross Roads ,La., also at Winchester, Fisher's Hill, Cedar Creek and others.

She was married to Thomas REES March 4, 1845; he was born Sept. 4, 1818, in Pennsylvania, and died March 10, 1865, in Jasper Co., Iowa; they had nine children-Anson E., Spencer H., Henrietta E., Roseland, Frank P., Estella M. and Effa C.; lost Charles, aged 9 years, and Lewis died in infancy. Second marriage to Isaac BADGER May 1, 1867.

Married Rachel LIVINGSTON in 1854; she was born in Lisbon, Ohio, in 1831; they have three children-Seneca W., Frank L. and Freeman G. Republican. Mr. BAIN was the first Township Clerk and Trustee elected in this township; was elected when the whole township was Democratic except himself. He enlisted in the 40trh Iowa V. I., under Capt. SENNET as musician; participated in the taking of Little Rock; was with Gen. BANKS on the Red River campaign; was mustered out at Davenport, Iowa, in July, 1865. Followed carpentering and building until 1877, by which he made his property; he is one of the most thorough musicians in this county.

Mr. HILL went to Kansas in May, 1856, as the Pro-slavery war was breaking out; crossed the Missouri River at St. Jo, just before the boats were taken by the Pro-slavery party; was taken prisoner by that party, robbed of $210 in gold, team and wagon, and left bound and gagged, but managed to escape, and in time recovered his team and wagon, but not his money. The account of it getting into the Eastern papers, thence into the Jasper County paper, and his people supposing him dead, his funeral sermon was preached; he afterward returned to his home in Jasper County, and is now a worthy citizen of that county.

Newton; born in Baltimore, Md., Feb. 17, 1821; his parents removed to Richmond, Va., when he was quite young, and in short time to Boston, Mass.; thence to New York City, and afterward to Philadelphia, where he lived a number of years, and learned the weaver's trade. After moving to different places, his parents went to the oil regions of Pennsylvania, where they died. Mr. R. came to this county in 1865, and settled where he now lives. Has been married three times; first to Rachel S. MITCHELL, May 17, 1842; they had one child-Rachel S.; Mrs. R. died in 1845. On the 18th day of June, 1848, he married Rachel H. STRINGFIELD; they had a family of seven children, and Sept. 20, 1862, she died. His third wife was Susan A. DE HAVEN, whom he married July 12, 1865; they had five children, and on March 4, 1877, she died. Mr. R. is now living alone. Politically, he is a Republican. Owns 200 acres of land, valued at $6,000.
