Fayette Co., Ohio, Dec. 8, 1828. He married Miss Phebe E. CONDIT in Albany,
Athens Co., Ohio, in 1856. They had one child - Harvey L., died Sept. 1,
1859. Mrs. Beatty died July 3, 1858. Mr. Beatty came to Iowa, October 1855;
bought his farm and returned to Ohio in March 1856; returned to Iowa and
settled on his farm, which he now owns, in March 1858. He married, for his
second wife, Elizabeth J. KERR, in Ohio, in 1860. She was born in Ross Co.,
Ohio, in April 1835. They have six children - Maggie E., James A., Robert K.,
Minnie and Bertie (twins) and Mary E. Mr. Beatty was elected to the 14th
General Assembly for two years; has held the office of Board of Supervisors
four years, and held numerous township offices. He has 300 acres of land,
valued at $50 per acre; has one of the largest and most expensive houses and
barns in Jasper Co.; has 300 fruit trees and 200 forest trees; a fine
location, with all the pleasant comforts of life. Mr. and Mrs. Beatty and
eldest children are members of the Congregational Church.

October 19, 1829. He married Miss LOGSDON in Iowa August 24, 1854. She was
born in Kentucky in 1834. They had three children - Edmond, Martha and
Emeline. Mrs. Bridges died in 1857. Mr. Bridges then married for his second
wife Sarah A. REYNOLDS in 1858. She was born in Kentucky. They has eleven
children - Perrie, Rebecca, Hayden, Jane, Absalom, Joseph, Carrie Bell, Rillie
and Charles; two children died in infancy. He has 349 acres of land, valued
at $25 per acre. He moved to Kentucky as a child and remained until he was 19
years of age; thence to Illinois and remained fifteen months, and thence to
Iowa in 1849. He was one of the very earliest settlers in Malaka Tp.; at that
time there were but three houses from his farm to Oskaloosa. He had to haul
goods and lumber from the Mississippi River and share all the disadvantages of
the early settlers. He has taken an active interest in and gave his support
to the schools, churches, etc., since the first settlement of the township.
Mr. and Mrs. and Mrs.[sic] B are members of the Protestant Methodist Church;
he is a Republican in politics.

She was born in Pennsylvania, Aug. 26, 1836. They have five children - Arthur
M., William M., Frank R., John W., and James C. He has 404 acres of land,
valued at $40 per acre. Mr. C. moved in to Ohio with his father when a child,
and moved to Iowa in 1854; entered land in Jasper and Taylor counties before
the township was organized. Mr. C. is one of first pioneers in this county;
had to haul his grain sixty miles, and his first lumber to build, 150 miles.
He has given his support to build the first schools and churches in the
Township; is now nicely situated with good improvements, bearing orchards,
groves, etc. Mr. and Mrs. C. are members of the Congregational Church; he is
a Republican in poilitics.

Mariett EARL in Fulton Co., Ohio, July 4, 1848. She was born in Ohio in 1828.
They have had two children, who died at the age of 3 and 6 years. He has
eighty acres of land in Poweshiek Tp., valued at $30 per acre. Mr. C.
followed carpentering twenty years in Ohio, and the mercantile business six
years. He moved to Fulton Co., remained a while, and thence to Iowa in 1876,
where he bought a farm. Is a member of the A., F. & A. M. Lodge; his wife is
a member of the Protestant Methodist Church; he is a Republican in politics.

She was born in Delaware Co., N.Y., Nov. 11, 1839. They have two children -
Anna and Flora; they were born in Malaka Tp. Iowa. Mr. Dodge has 240 acres of
good improved land, valued at $50 per acre, with fine buildings, orchards,
groves, etc. He enlisted in Aug. 1862, in Co. I, 10th Iowa V. I.; was in the
army of the Mississippi; was in the battles of New Madrid, siege of Corinth,
battle of Corinth and fall of Corinth and Iuka; was wounded at the battle of
Corinth in the left hand; lost two fingers and injured the balance of the hand
so it remains almost useless; was also injured in the thigh and carried the
ball two years; served fifteen months and was discharged by reason of his
wounds. Mrs. Dodge is a member of the Congregational Church. Mr. Dodge had a
bother[sic] (Israel) in the 13th Iowa V. I., who died at Bolivar, Tenn., from
sickness contracted while in the service.

Jasper Co., Iowa in 1857. She was born in New York in 1837. They have one
child - May. He has 440 acres of land, valued at $30 per acre. Mr. Emerson
moved to Illinois in 1851; remained three years; thence to Newton, where he
has engaged in the mercantile business, keeping a general store, several
years; was engaged in the clothing business eleven years in Chicago, fron 1867
to 1878. He bought his present farm in 1870, built a large house and barn and
set out groves, orchards, etc. He makes a specialty of breeding and selling
fine short-horn cattle, Poland-China hogs and Bashaw horses. Mr. Emerson is a
member of teh A., F. & A. M. Lodge at Newton, and Mrs. E. is a member of the
Congregational Church at Newton.

She was born in Oneida Co., N. Y., Nov. 24, 1833. They have nine children -
George, Edward, Milford, Sarah, Adella, Frank, Milton, Hattie and Cora. Have
sixty-five acres of land, valued at $40 per acre. He moved to Wisconsin and
remained nine years; returned to New York, and thence to Iowa in 1866. He
followed saw milling five years in New York. Himself and wife are members of
the Christian Church. He moved on the farm before any improvements were made;
he now has it well improved with orchard and grove, and well fenced.

Sept. 7, 1833. Married Henrietta AULLS in Illinois in 1857. She was born in
Steuben Co., N. Y., in 1841. They have four children - Andrew S., Amerson
Thomas, William Henry, and Ameretta Bell. Has 120 acres of land, valued at
$30 per acre. He moved to Illinois when a child 11 years of age; remained
fourteen years; thence to Claifornia in 1859, where he followed mining one
year and teaming one year and returned, after remaining two years, to New
York. He settled in Iowa in Fall of 1866. He improved his farm, set out
orchard and grove, etc. Has held the office of Road Supervisor two years and
Director two years. Are members of Restitutionist Church; he votes the
Republican ticket.

born in Jasper Co., Iowa. He has 157 acres of land, valued at $30 per acre,
with good improvements. Mr. G. learned the cooper's trade, which he followed
ten years. He moved to Iowa Co., Iowa, in 1854; located in Jasper Co. in
1856, where he carries on farming and stock raising.

1833. They have one child - Bertha, born in Jasper Co., Iowa. Has eighty
acres of land, valued at $40 per acre. He moved to Ohio, where he followed
shoemaking six months, and thence to Iowa in 1853, and followed trade one
year; followed carpentering three years, and then located on his present farm,
where he now resides, in 1858. Mr. Hall followed school teaching in Newton;
taught in the old Court House, which has since been removed. Held the office
of Township Clerk four years and President of the School Board two years. Mr.
and Mrs. Hall are members of the Universalist Church in Newton.

died in Jasper Co., Iowa. Married for his second wife Sarah J. WARRELL in
Jasper Co., Iowa, in 1865. She was born in Ohio in 1841; mother of seven
children - Lillie B., Richard, Charles, Sophia, Viola, and an infant; James
and Minnie died in infancy. Moved to Indiana; thence to Missouri; Madison
Co., Iowa; thence to Marion Co., Iowa; to Jasper Co. in 1864. He had but 10
cents in his pocket when he came to the county; now has a mill that cost
$6,000, fifteen acres of land, a good residence and comfortable surroundings,
which he made by his own exertions.

1833. Married Torneten HATTEBUHR in Illinois; he was born in Germany; he died
in 1875. They had six children - Sophia, Henry, Mary, Dora, Etta and Lizzie.
She has 176 acres of land, valued at $35 per acre. He came to America to
Illinois in 1854; thence to Iowa in 1856. Mrs. H. is a member of the
Evangelical Church. Mr. H. was a mason by trade, and followed it for several
years. They improved their present farm, and set out the orchard and grove.
HAWN, Augustus Farmer; S. 36; P. O. Newton; born in Ohio Sept. 30, 1842.
Married Mary Ann MUNN in Jasper Co., Iowa in 1877. She was boen in Missouri
in 1861. He has eighty acres of land and two acres of timber, valued at $30
per acre. He moved to Iowa in 1868; settled and improved his farm, and built
his house and set out an orchard, etc. He enlisted in the 12th Ind. V. I. in
Aug. 1862; was taken prisoner at Richmond, Ky., and paroled in the field; was
in the army of Tennessee; was in Gen Sherman's march to the sea; was in the
battles of Richmond, Ky., Jackson, Miss., Mission Ridge, Dalton, Resaca,
Griswellville, Kenesaw Mountain, Savannah, Atlanta, and all the principal
engagements and several skirmishes; was discharged with his regiment at the
close of the war. Mr. and Mrs. Hawn are members of the M. E. Church; is a
Democrat.

Pennsylvania in 1842. They have one child - Philip Sidney. He owns 100 acres
of land, valued at $35 per acre. He moved to Illinois when a boy. Enlisted
in the 138th Illinois V. I. in Aug. 1862; lost his health and was discharged
by reason of physical disability. He moved to Jasper Co., Iowa in 1873, where
he has a good farm with all good improvements. Mr. and Mrs. Hill are members
of the M. E. Church.
HOLLEN, E. N. Farmer and Stock Raiser; S. 31; P. O. Newton; born in Pendleton
Co., W. Va., Feb. 12, 1826. Married Almarine PARSONS in West Virginia in
1853. She was born in Randolph Co., W. Va. in 1828. Has 200 acres of land,
valued at $50 per acre. Mr. H. learned the millwright trade and followed it
several years in West Virginia. He moved into Jasper Co., Iowa in 1853;
entered his farm and made all the improvements; at that time there were only
four shanties in this section; hauled his first lumber and goods from Keokuk
and Muscatine. Mr. H. has a good farm; with living water on each forty acres,
under good improvements, good house and barn, five acres of forrest trees, a
bearing orchard, and small fruits. Mr. H. has 100 head of cattle; keeps the
blooded Short-Horn and Devon cattle. He has held the principal offices in the
Jasper County Agricultural Society; has given his aid and attention to this
Society and the improvement of stock since its origin; has given his support
liberally and cheerfully for the schools and churches; holds the office of
Class Steward and District Steward of the church several years. Mr. and Mrs.
H. are members of teh M. E. Church; he is a Democrat.

Jasper Co. March 1866. They had three children - Clarence, Bertha and Jasper.
Mr. Johnson had four children when married, by his first wife - Amasa, Mary,
George and David. Has 160 acres of land, valued at $40 per acre. They have
orchards, groves, etc. She is a member of teh M. E. Church.

Henry, Adam Leslie, Forest Alonzo, Ira Jacob, William Robert, Sarah Jane and
Henrietta. Has eighty acres of land, valued at $25 per acre. Moved into
Illinois when a boy, and thence to Iowa, Poweshiek Co. in 1869, thence to
Jasper in 1871. Mr. J. came to this State in very limited circumstances, and

Mrs. Kinyon died in New York in 1859. Mr. Kinyon married for his second wife,
Sarah FULTS in New York. She was born in New York in 1838. They had five
children - Eliza, Ella Elfaretta, Bertie, Alfred Orsemas and Vallego. Has 480
acres of land, valued at $30 per acre. Moved to New York with his father;
remained until moving to Iowa in 1860. He followed the saw-milling and lumber
business twenty years in New York. Mr. K. made all his improvements, set out
an orchard and grove, and built his buildings; keeps some Short Horn stock and
Berkshire hogs. Mr. K. has always given liberally to schools and churches; he
has a good property, made by his energy. Is a Greenbacker.

of land, valued at $30 per acre. Came to Ogle Co., Illinois in 1848, where he
carried on farming extensively; moved to Iowa in 1867. He settled on his
present farm in its natural state; he now has it under good improvement, with
good buildings, orchards, groves, etc.; is one of teh many energetic and
prosperous farmers of Malaka.

Sept. 12, 1824. Married Louisa SILVORD in Wisconsin in 1852. She was born in
Germany in 1824. They have six children - Henry, Fred, Simon, August, Minna
and Luoisa. Has 390 acres of land, valued at $30 per acre. He came to
Wisconsin in 1851; remained sixteen years, and thence to Jasper Co., Iowa in
1867. He built a good building, set out an orchard and grove and improved his
farm. Mr. and Mrs. Krampe are members of the Reformed Church. Has ten acres
of timber in Clear Creek Tp.
