For his second wife, he married Mary E. WYATT, born in West Virginia Aug. 23, 1826; mother of six living children-Oliver, born Sept. 19, 1853; Margaret, Feb. 10, 1855; Marta, Jan. 5, 1857; Delano, March 10, 1859; Sarah J., Aug. 20, 1861; John R., April 16, 1863; James W., July 28, 1866; Lida, Feb. 26, 1871. Emigrated direct from Indiana to this county, where he lived until his death, which was mourned by a large family and all who knew him. He came to this county with teams; camped out; was fifteen days making the trip; stopped with Mrs. J.'s brother-in-law, where they stayed four weeks, then moved into a little log shanty, until he built his house, where the family now reside. Did their trading mostly at Des Moines. In Prairie City there were a few houses and one small store, kept by a man of the name BUTTERS. Mr. J. came here with some money, made his family a good home, and was one of the influential and respected farmers of the county.
