169. William RAMSHAW

William Ramshaw, born Sept 1890 Troy, IL; married Ella Ruth Raber (daughter of Frank and Elizabeth Raber) abt 1910 and was living in Troy, IL in 1920 and died on 14 Mar 1926 in Madison Co., IL following an accident in which their automobile was struck by a bus; the accident also claimed the life of George Raber of Troy (brother of Ella); also injured in the crash were William’s 2 children, William & Tommy. Ella moved to California sometime before 1940; Ella Ruth was born 13 Aug 1893 and died in La Habra, CA on 2 Aug 1972. On the 1900 census, Ella Raber’s family are neighbors of the Ramshaws. Ella was very active in town and church functions in Troy, Illinois.

He married a woman named Helen and they have one daughter named Shelly Ramshaw


171. Thomas RAMSHAW

Thomas Ramshaw, born 19 Dec 1893 Troy, IL; married twice and his second wife’s name was Helen ?; Thomas and Helen were living in Imperial, CA in 1930; he died on 4 Sep 1978 in either Riverside or L.A. Thomas was living in Carbon, Montana in June 1917 working as a miner when he filled out his W.W.I. draft card; by 1920 he is living in Los Angeles, CA, but not working (possibly has just returned from the war?) Thomas was first married to Lois Smith abt 1921, but they are divorced by 1930 and Lois is married again to Lou Beckridge [Lois was born 1904 in Montana]. Thomas and Helen had no children together. The child of Thomas and Lois was


175. Kate SCHMIDT

Kate Schmidt Beutler, born 9 Nov 1890, married to Marcus Beutler of Summerfield; living in Belleville in 1963; she died on 1 Dec 1987 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Belleville. She was buried at College Hill Cemetery, Lebanon and she was survived by 4 daughters:

176. John B. SCHMIDT

John was a member of the Masons, a WWI veteran, and a retired Prudential Insurance agent; he left behind two children.


326. Jerome SCHMIDT

Jerome B. Schmidt (“Satchel”), born Lebanon, IL 16 Apr 1922; resided in Trenton and Lebanon; died on 3 Mar 2002 at Lebanon; married Julie ? and had a daughter, also named Julie.


177. Florence SCHMIDT

Florence Schmidt Keck, born abt 1894, married to Charles Keck in Highland; we have not yet found a date of death for Florence, or children. Had 2 girls and a son who died young. Youngest daughter, Virginia Karr.


Charles KECK

1920 Census. Lived in Saint Jacob, Madison Co., Illinois age 32, with wife Florence and daughter Dorothy. He was a farmer.


180. Walter MONROE

Walter was a coal miner all his life and was nicknamed Moonie because he frequently worked the night shift.

Dorothy Monroe Hammond remembers that Walter Monroe was a quiet, small man but very handsome and a good, hard worker. He was also very devoted to his family. One winter he walked on slick ice from Summerfield to Lebanon's Bruno House drug store for cough syrup because his daughter, Hazel, had a terrible bout of the croup. He had one vice in his later years -- once a month he would drink a small bucket of beer (about a bottle, by today's standards). Elizabeth always insisted he drink his beer out on the coal shed.


Elizabeth WALKER

Elizabeth Walker was born on 13 June, 1887 and was Peote Indian. Her parents died when she was young and she was raised by her aunt (Emma Walker, also a Peote Indian) and her uncle, Lafayette Walker. Elizabeth died on c in Loraine, Ohio, at the son of her home, Gene. She and Walter are buried at College Hill Cemetery, Lebanon, Illinois.

Sonny remembers that Elizabeth talked kind of harsh, but actually was a jolly person.


334. Eugene Arthru MONROE

He has a stepdaughter, Bernice Young, who resides in Paris, Illinois.


335. Walter Lafayette MONROE

Walter was a corporal stationed in England during World War II; no children born to this marriage.

George was a coal miner and a Navy veteran of World War I.

182. William MONROE

William settled in Detroit, Mich; on 12 May 1940 he married Mable S. Grant. The couple resided at 49446 Pine in Plymouth until their deaths. During his lifetime, William was a maintenance worker at Maybury Sanatorium and Mable was a seamstress at the same place. They were members of the First Baptist Church of Northville, Michigan and he was a Past Master of Lodge 189 and a Past Patron of Orient Chapter 77; she was a Past Matron of Northville Orient Chapter 77, Order of Eastern Star; William's first wife was Eva ______;


183. Emma MONROE

Emma was a member of the O'Fallon United Church of Christ, the Women's Guild, the Senior Citizens, and Pocahontas Lodge in O'Fallon.
