661. Mandy Mae Adams

(Research):Obituary: Adams infant dies Wednesday; services Friday
NEWTON - Mandy Mae Adams, daughter of John E. and Marvelyn Lane Adams of Rt. 2, Newton,was as born and died Wednesday, Feb 3, at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Metz Community Church. The Rev. Harold Den Hartog, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery. Wallace Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorial constitutions to a fund in the child's name will be accepted. Memorials may be left at the funeral home. Also surviving are two brothers, John P. and Michael Adams; a sister, Jennifer; her material grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Phil Lane of Rt. 2, Newton and her paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. John H. 687. Nila Marie Schnathorst

(Research):The funeral services for Nila Pearl Schnathorst, 17-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Schnathorst, were held this afternoon at the Murdoch Funeral home with the Rev. D.E Skiles, of Grinnell and the Rev. B.L. Howse, officiating.

The songs, "Gathering Buds" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" were sung by Mr.s B.L. Howse accompanied by Bernice Davis.

Mrs. Herbert Wagamon, Carla Kooistra, Jeanetta Hasselaar and Sibel Kaldenberg were in charge of floral arrangements.

Pallbearers were Estella McGrath, Winona Baty, Pauline Baty, and Elveretta Walker. Interment was in the Newton Union Cemetery.

The small child was playing in the house Thursday morning with her three and one-half year old brother, Emlin, while Mrs. Schnathorst was in the wash house. The mother heard her small son screaming, "Mother" and she ran to the house where the dress of the small child was already enveloped in flames which are believed to have started while ? were playing with lighted matches. She was taken to the Grinnell Community hospital where she died around 3 o'clock that afternoon.

Surviving relatives include her parents, three sisters, Dolarese, Ladonna and Opel, three brothers LeRoy, Emiln andIvan; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Walker and Mrs. Roy Schnathorst and a number of aunts and uncles. ~ Newton Daily News, September 10, 1945.
