Obituary: William H. Brock
MOUNTAIN HOME, Ark - William H. Brock, 77, of Mountain Home, Ark., a former resident of Jasper County, died Friday, June 11, at the Baxter Country Regional Hospital in Mountain Home. Private funeral services and burial will be held at a later date at Sugar Grove Cemetery in Metz.
Survivors are his wife, Nanette; a son, Tim W. of Mountain Home, ark.; two grandchildren; a brother, John W. of Newton; a sister, Marjorie Yost of Newton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ragan, and a sister, Bonnilee Seney.
Mr. Brock, a retired farmer, was a former member of the Jasper Country Iowa board of Education and the Iowa Masterswine Producers and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. The son of Ira and Bessie Zoe Dales Brock, he was born Feb 16, 1916 in Jasper County. He was married to Nanette Arndt April 5, 1946 in Nashua. Dorothy Nadine Brock: Dorothy Nadine Brock, 82, of 1312 S 9th Ave. E. died of heart failure Saturday, Aug. 9, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Pence-Reese Funeral home, 310 N. 2nd Ave. E. in Newton, with the Rev. Gene Bryant of the First Christian Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.
Friends may call after 8 a.m. Tuesday where the family will be available from 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County.
The daughter of John Wiley Stoner and Millie Mildred (Johnston Surber) Stoner, she was born Aug. 16, 1920, in rural Prairie City. She graduated from Prairie City High School in 1937. On June 22, 1937, she married John Worthing Brock in Des Moines She was a homemaker and member of First Christian Church in Prairie City.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Ira Raymond Brock of Chariton and James Wiley Brock of Newton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Louise and Ernie Bell and Susan Ann and Bud Picket, all of Newton; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Eugene Simbro of Knoxville; and a sister-in-law, Lois Stoner of Colorado Springs, Colo.

CHARITON — Ira Raymond "Jack" Brock, 67, of Chariton, formerly of Newton, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at Knoxville Veterans Hospital in Knoxville.
Graveside services will be held today at 1 p.m. at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. in the V.A. Hospital Chapel in Knoxville with the Rev. Tim Johnson, interim pastor of First Christian Church in Newton, and the Rev. Robert Arnold, chaplain of Veteran's Administration Hospital in Knoxville, officiating. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home.
The son of John W. and Dorothy (Stoner) Brock, he was born Oct., 28, 1937, in rural Prairie City. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1956. He was a resident of Auburn Manor in Chariton for 18 years, but lived most of his life in Newton. He was employed at the Maytag Hotel and served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed history and reading about past cultures and civilizations. He also enjoyed keeping up on current events by reading the newspaper and enjoyed his many friends at Auburn Manor.
Survivors include his father, John Brock of Newton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Ernie Bell and Sue and Bud Pickett, all of Newton; a brother, James Brock of Newton; and his family and friends at Auburn Manor in Chariton.

Memorial services for Ragan Brock, 70, Rt. 1, Monroe, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, at the Center for Performance at Newton Community High School. Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. Memorials to a fund in Mr. Brock's name will be accepted. Distribution to various charities will take place at a later date. Contributions may be left at the funeral home or at the memorial service. He died Thursday evening at mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines of a heart condition. Cremation followed death.
Survivors are his wife, Miriam; three sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Bobbie of Iowa City, Thomas and Maureen of Washington, D.C., and Joseph and Kristi of Rt. 1, Monroe; and two grandsons. Mr. Brock, a longtime farmer, had been a Jasper County Supervisor from1988 through 1993, a member of the Jasper County Conservation Board from1962 to 1989, a member of the Iowa State Association of County Conservation Boards from 1978 to 1983. He was a member of the Newton Board of Education for two terms and was appointed to fill out an un-expired term from 1967 to 1973, was on the Prairie City School Board from 1961 to 1964, was a member of the board of directors of the Marshalltown District of the Federal land Bank, Omaha Region, and was a charter member of Lunar Grp.
The son of Ira A. and Bessie Dales Brock, he was born Feb. 15, 1923 on the farm where he made his home at the time of his death. He attended rural jasper County schools, was graduated from Newton Community High School and attended Drake University in Des Moines. Marjorie Yost, 83, of Newton died of cancer Monday at Park Centre Care Center. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, of which she was a member. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
Born in Newton, Mrs. Yost lived in several other areas before returning to Newton in 1973. She was a retired elementary teacher and a member of P.E.O., Questers and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Surviving are a daughter, Jane Hanson of Whitehall, Mont.; a brother, John Brock of Newton; and three grandchildren.

E. Gerald Yost, 84, of Newton died of a heart ailment Sunday at Skiff Medical Center. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Yost was born in Osceola and moved to Newton in 1972 after living in Mason City and in Minnesota and North Dakota. He retired as superintendent of Great Lakes Oil Co., and was a Minnesota oil industry lobbyist and member of several oil groups.

Des Moines -- Bonnie Brock Seney, 60, of Des Moines, a former resident of Newton, died of heart failure Monday, Sept 11, at her home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines. The Rev. William D. Cotton, pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines will conduct services. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery, in West Des Moines. Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions to the American Heart Association will be accepted.
Survivors are three sons, Brock of St. Charles, Ill., Bradley of Seattle, Wash., and Brent of Columbus, Ohio; a grandson,; a sister, Marge Yost of Newton; and three brothers, Ragan Brock and Worthing Brock, both of Newton, and William Brock of Mountain Home, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Noel, in 1980.
Mrs. Seney, a former secretary at The Newton Daily News and most recently a secretary at Midwestern Power Products in Des Moines was a member of the Grace Methodist Church in Des Moines. Lyle B. Emmack, 78, of 829 E. 7th St. N., a resident of Jasper County since 1938 and a salesman in various departments of Poweshiek-Jasper Farm Service Co. for more than 30 years, died Friday evening, July 6, at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 13, at the First United Methodist Church. Dr. Richard Bentzinger, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial of remains will be held in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to Alzheimer's Research or the United Methodist Church Building Fund may be left at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
Survivors are his wife, Audra; three sons, Charles E. of Osceola, Norman B. of Omaha, Neb., and Malcolm W. of Indianapolis, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and three sisters, Zelma Williams and Mrs. John (Elva) Bell, both of Newton, and Mrs. Earl (Oleta) Runyan of Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Emmack also had been employed as a statistician for the South Shore Line Railroad in Chicago, Ill., and as a salesman for Swift and Co. in Joliet and Chicago, Ill.
The son of Guy B. and Myra T. Brock Emmack, he was born Aug. 19, 1905 near Newton, was a 1923 graduate of Newton Community High School, attended YMCA College in 1926 and was graduated from Chicago College of Advanced Traffic in 1930.

Audra Helyne Emmack, 96, of Mt. Clair Nursing and Rehabilitation Home in Omaha, Neb., died Sunday, March 16. Services will be held at a later date in Newton.
The daughter of Francis and Hannah (Leidig) Brooks, she was born Sept 5, 1906, in Amboy, Ill. She graduated in 1924 from the high school in Amboy, Ill., and then attended the Brown Business College. She was employed as a secretary until Mary 1931 for the New York Central Railroad.
She also was employed for a time with the Welcome Wagon program.On May 2, 1931, she married Lyle Emmack of Newton, in Chicago, Ill. They lived in the Chicago area until 1938. Mrs. Emmack joined the United Methodist Church in Newton in 1938 and was active in many capacities including the church choir, Sunday school teacher and superintendent and the Builders Sunday School class. She served actively in the PTA, the PEO and the Jasper County Cancer Society. She was a member of he Jasper County Farm Bureau and the Amboy Grange.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Emmack and Cathy Coe of Keithsburg, Ill., Norman and Naomi Emmack of Omaha, Neb. and Malcom and Barbara Emmack of Indianapolis, Ind.; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four step- great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Williams was a lifelong resident of Newton, where she ran a laundry business until her retirement. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Obituary Oleta Runyan
Oleta Bernice Emmack was born March 10, 1917 on the family farm in Jasper County, Iowa. She was the fourth child of Guy Burzee and Myra Tilsie Brock Emmack. In the early years of her life, she was very sickly and required the constant care of a private nurse. She attended the Mound Prairie #6 Country School and graduated in 1934 from New[ton] High School.
She married Robert Earl Runyan of Colfax, on June 12, 1937 at the Baptist Parsonage in Marshalltown, Iowa. They lived nearly all their married life in Monroe and were the parents of three children: Janice Marie, Robert Earl and Lana Faye.
She served many years as a Campfire leader and taught Sunday School. She enjoyed flower gardening and doing handwork. She quilted with the ladies from the Methodist Church until her eyesight began to fail. She had a lifelong love of animals and always had a pet in her home.
After her husband died in August of 1970, she moved from Aurora, IL back to the family home in Monroe and then spent 10 years working in the music department of downtown Younkers in Des Moines, Iowa.
In May of 1999, after a fall where she broke both her wrists, she became a resident of Mayflower Health Care Center in Grinnell, where she received loving care from a highly competent staff.
She passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2003 at the Health Care Center at the age of 85 years, 11 months and five days. Those left to honor her memory are her three children and their spouses: Janice and Merritt Van Roekel of Monroe, IA, Robert Runyan of Boone, IA and Lana and Michael Slagel of Wellman, IA. There were eight grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
She also leaves her Sister-in-law Audra Emmack of Omaha, NE and a Brother-in law Louis Teslik of Grinnell, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Lyle Emmack, and two sisters Zelma Williams and Elva Ball. She was a faithful member of the Monroe United Methodist Church for over 60 years. Funeral services were held Feb. 19, 2003 at the United Methodist Church in Monroe, IA.
Earl Runyan, Former Resident Died At Aurora, Illinois, August 7th
Earl Runyan of Aurora, Ill., formerly of Monroe and Colfax, died Friday, August 7, 1970, on his 55th birthday, at Copley Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday in the United Methodist Church at Monroe with the Rev. James V. Poulson of Council Bluffs officiating. Burial was in the Monroe Cemetery.
Those surviving are his widow, Oleta; one son, Robert of Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. Merritt (Janice) Van Roekel of Monroe and Mrs. Dennis (Lana) Richardson of North Liberty; five grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Lena Runyan of Colfax and two sisters, Mrs. James (Mable) Pickles of Colfax and Mrs. Louis (Gladys) Teslik of Clear Lake.
Mr. Runyan was preceded in death by his father and four brothers, Guy, Arley, Henry and Carroll.
He was associated with Pfister Associated Growers, Inc. for 28 years.
The son of Lanar and Lena Henderson Runyan, he was born August 7, 1915, in Jasper County.
He was married to Oleta B. Emmack June 12, 1937 in Marshalltown.
