Wayne Edward Johnson, age 58, of Ottumwa, formerly of Albia, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at his residence in Ottumwa. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 29, 2006, at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia. Burial with Military Rites will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia.
He was born Oct. 1, 1947 in Iowa City, to Harry 'Peach' and Beverly (Remmark) Johnson. Wayne was a graduate of Albia High School, class of 1966. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Army. He had worked at Chamberlain Manufacturing in Albia, the Glen-Gery Brick of Ottumwa, and recently was employed at Clow-Valve Company in Oskaloosa. He enjoyed all kinds of sports including Major League Baseball and NFL football. He was a former coach of Little League Baseball and had played in Men's Softball Leagues in Albia. Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his mother, Beverly Lee of Albia; one brother Ben (Deb) Johnson of Albia; one step-sister, Paula Stevens of Des Moines, Iowa; nieces and nephews: Mindy, Michelle, and Brandon Johnson, and Jill West.
Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Harry 'Peach' Johnson; two sons, Michael and Shawn Johnson; one brother, Steve Johnson; and a sister in infancy.
Visitation will open after 4 p.m., Friday, July 28, 2006 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia with the family present from 6-8 p.m., Friday evening.
Casketbearers will be Kenny Chance, Edward 'Shorty' Thomas, Jim Reed, Phil and Vince Remmark, and Miles Brummel.
Memorials have been established to the Monroe County Little League.

Research Notes: Wayne Johnson (Beverly’s oldest son) served in Vietnam. I used to save Mad magazines for him, and my mom bought Jiffy Pop popcorn to put in the packages Beverly sent. My mother, Olive Audrey Remmark Berry, worked at the Union Carbide plastics bag factory in Centerville. She used to get plastic bags from the salvage department at work to give to Beverly to send to Wayne. Soldiers in Vietnam wanted plastic bags to keep their equipment and belongings dry. Wayne was in a mine detection and detonation unit and used a metal detector to locate land-mines. I remember Beverly telling us that when he came home, he sat on the lawn and cried because he could finally walk around without worrying about stepping on a mine.~ Personal recollections of E. ALTOONA--K. Paul Lane, 66, of Altoona, formerly of Newton, died Thursday, Oct. 9, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines after prolonged complications from open heart surgery.
Memorial services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Jehovah's Witnesses Grandview Congregation, 4425 N. E. 46th St. in Des Moines. Hamilton's Funeral Home in Altoona is handling arrangements.
Memorials will be accepted to the Grandview Congregation.
The son of Kenneth E. an Elenor (Dennis) Lane, he was born April 23, 1937, in Iowa City. On April 20, 1963, he married Wanda Jacobs. He was a former editor of the "Newton Daily News," he was the communication director of the Iowa State Bar Association. He also designed Web sites for DWX of Des Moines. He lived in Newton until December 1996, when he and his wife moved to Altoona.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Kenna and Rick Potter; two sons and daughter-in-law, Steven C. and Kacie Lane and Brian D. and Melissa Lane; five grandchildren; and a sister, DeAnna K. Mahoney. ~ Newton Daily News, October 10, 2003.

Leonard L. Shadley, 65, of 715 N. 3rd Ave. E., a lifelong resident of
Newton, died this morning, Feb 9, at Skiff Medical Center following a heart
attack.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Wallace-Pence Funeral
Home.
The Rev. Frederick Kramer, Skiff Medical Center chaplain, will conduct
services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Shadley Stacey and an infant grandson.
Mr. Shadley, who had retired from Axtell Ford after many hears of service,
was a veteran of World War II.
