Fern Edna Remmark, 100, of Albia, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at Monroe Care Center in Albia. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Winfield Funeral Home in Albia, Rev. Kevin Leveck officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia.
She was born April 12, 1904, in Hiteman, to Benjamin and Edna Homer Lane. She married John Remmark on June 11, 1921. He passed away on Dec. 10, 1970.
Fern was a homemaker and also worked at John Morrell Company, retiring in 1967. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Albia Rebekah Lodge, Albia American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary Post #775 in Ottumwa, and the Monroe County Hospital Auxiliary. Fern also volunteered for the Democratic Party, receiving numerous awards from Ted, Joseph, and Ethel Kennedy, Roslyn Carter, and Walter Mondale. She loved to cook and enjoyed gardening and taking care of her yard. She loved people.
She is survived by one daughter, Beverly Lee of Alba; one son, Phillip "Rabbit" Remmark of Ottumwa; one brother, Dean Lane of Hot Springs, Ark.; one sister, Dorothy James of Elburn, Ill.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Ray and Ellsworth; one grandson, Steven Johnson; two brothers, Herald and George Lane; and one sister, Marie Hyde.
Visitation began at noon on Tuesday at Winfield Funeral Home, with the family present from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday evening.
Casketbearers are Lynn Remmark, Phil Remmark, Vince Remmark, Wayne Johnson, Ben Johnson and Miles Brummel.
An open memorial has been established. Winfield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He married Eleanora Gutcher on April 9, 1934, in Albia. He farmed and worked at John Deere for 30 years. He is survived by his wife of rural Eddyville; a son, Mel of Greeley, Colo.; a daughter, Evelyn of Greeley; three grandchildren; one great-grand child; a brother, Tom Lane of rural Eddyville; and a sister, Evelyn Albaugh of Des Moines.

Thomas C. Lane, 81, of Eddyville, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at the Monroe Care Center in Albia. Funeral services were 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa, Revs. Michael Crouch and Dennis Durst officiating.
Burial was in Highland Cemetery in Eddyville. He was born Nov. 11, 1924, in Monroe County, to Thomas Emanuel and Martha Narcissus (Briordy) Lane. He married Phyllis Elaine Stuchel, Jan. 16, 1955 at the Eddyville Christian Church. He grew up in the Hiteman area before moving to rural Eddyville. He was a farmer all of his life. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Eddyville, trustee emeritus of the church, charter member and past president of the Eddyville Ruritan Club, and sold Pioneer Seed for 14 years. He loved farming, hunting, and dearly enjoyed his grandchildren. He also played cards and enjoyed camping at the Iowa State Fair every year.
He is survived by his wife of Eddyville; two sons, Kevin (Cathy) Lane and Mike (Nancy) Lane, both of Eddyville; eight grandchildren, Twila, Sara, Ariel, Joseph, Kelly, Jacob, Teri Jo and Anthony; and one sister, Evelyn Albaugh of Johnston; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Francis, Jesse, Alvin and Eugene Lane; and two sisters, Geneva Allison and Martha Zajec. Memorials may be made to the National Alzheimer's Association.

Mr. Lane died of complications of Alzheimer Disease Sunday morning, September 22 at the Newton Health Care Center. Born January 5, 1911 in Heitman, he was the son of George and Selma Anderson Lane. He attended Albia schools.
He married Eleanor Dennis in June 1933 and later married Wanda Thompson Lawson, April 12, 1969 in Newton. A resident of Newton since 1927, he was an inspector at the Parsons Company. He was also a past member of the Izaak Walton League and U. A. W. retirees Union.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda, a son and daughter-in-law, K. Paul and Wanda of Newton; a daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Dale Mahoney of Newton. Six grandchildren and seven great-grand children. He is also survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, Phil and Marjorie, Leo and Wilma, and Don and Marcella, all of Newton and several nieces and nephews. George Leo Lane, the son of George and Selma Anderson Lane, was born November 28, 1920 in Rex Five, Iowa. He grew up in Newton, Iowa and was a graduate of Newton High School in 1940.
On July 2, 1942, Leo was united in marriage to Wilma Bagnall in Kirksville, Missouri. He owned and operated his own carpenter and home building business for 30+ years. Leo later worked for the Holiday Inn for 19 years as a maintenance man prior to his retiring. He enjoyed hunting, but his true love was fishing. Leo loved the solitude and beauty of being on a river or stream fishing. He held one of the few lifetime fishing licenses that the State of Iowa issued one year. Leo was a loving and devoted husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle and friend.
Leo died Thursday, January 31, 2002 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He was 81. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Adam Lane and 3 brothers, Ted, Kenny and Paul Lane.
