Carl Lind Clement

Obituary: Carl L. Clement

Carl Lind Clement, 78, of Rt. 2, Newton, a resident of the Newton area for approximately 45 years (wrong), died this morning, Aug 7, at the Jasper County Care Facility, southeast of Newton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Reese Chapel. The Rev. Garold Quick of the Metz Community Church and the Rev. Harold Den Hartog of Pella will conduct the services.

Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Thursday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials to the Metz Church or the physical therapy department at the Jasper County Care Facility will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Marvel; two daughters, Caroline (Mrs.Ed) Rasmussen of Grinnell and Janice (Mrs. Jerry) Butler of newton; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Leland "Tag" Clement of Newton; and a sister, Elda (Mrs. John) Rorabaugh of Colfax. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter. Mr. Clement, a member of the Metz Community Church, Sugar Grove Grange and Iowa Horseshoe Pitching Association, had played baseball for many years for Metz, and was on the church board for many years.

A farmer and retired Farm Bureau Insurance employee, Mr. Clement was active in Republican politics. The son of Homer and Carrie Lind Clement, he was born Jan 13, 1913 in Metz. He was married to Marvel Hitchler June 22, 1937 in Metz. ~ Newton Daily News, Aug 7, 1991

LOVELAND, Colo - George W. Hitchler, 79, of Loveland, Colo., formerly of Newton, died Saturday, July 18 at McKee Medical Center in Loveland, Colo. Funeral services will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colo. Visitation will be today from 5 until 8 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Loveland. Memorial gifts can be made to the George W. Hitchler Memorial Fund in care of Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 W. 28th St., Greeley, Colo., 80631.
The son of John Ellis and Merle May Anthony Hitchler, he was born March 25, 1919 in Newton. He married Mary Shrum June 23, 1942 in Bethany, Mo. He served as a chief in the Coast Guard during World War II, worked on a dairy farm in Missouri and also taught auto mechanics for several years. He lived in several places around the country including Newton, Los Angeles, Calif., Mendon, Mo., Lakewood, Calif. and Loveland, Colo.
Survivors include his wife; one son, John of Aurora, Colo.; two daughters, Belinda Jean (Bill) Smith of Lakewood, Colo., and Charmaine Kay (Ron) Lanning of Aurora, Colo.; a half brother, Robert John, and his wife Jean (should be Judy) Hitchler of Newton; three sisters, Marvel Clement and Mrs. Philip (Marjorie) lane, both of Newton and Mrs. Jim (Marilynn) Edgeton of Fairfield, Mo. Odetha Lorraine Walker Schnathorst, 80, of Indianola, a longtime Newton area resident, died Monday, March 22 at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines of heart failure. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Faith Church in Indianola. The Rev. John Long will conduct services. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Newton Union Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fort Des Moines Church of the Open Bible, 1116 Army Post Road in Des Moines. Hamilton Southtown Funeral Home in Des Moines is handling the arrangements.
Survivors are her husband, Glen; three sons, Leroy of Ankney, Emlin of Indianola and Ivan of Des Moines; fur daughters, Doloreze (Mrs. Don) Allen, LaDonna, (Mrs. Dean) Curtis, Opal (Mrs. Darrell) Walker and Pearl (Mrs. Mike) Hutchinson, al of Des Moines; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. Also surviving are a brother, Ivan, of Newton; and four sisters, LaVera Eaton, Yvonna (Mrs. Roy) Anderson and Della Moore, both of Newton, and Roberta (Mrs. James) Barkley of Wichita, Kan. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nila, in 1945, a grandson, her father in 1952, her mother in 1989 and sister, Alise Maxwell Lawson in 1989. The daughter of John William and Della Pearl Hitchler Walker, she was born Jan 1, 1913 in Gettes, S.D. (Should be Geddes, S.D.) Elvin Wayne Eaton

(Research):Elvin W. Eaton dies Monday; rites Wednesday. Elvin W. Easton, 60, of 624 E. 5th St. S., a lifelong resident of Newton, died Monday morning at the Skiff Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wallace Funeral Home.

The Rev. Ellis Ryherd, pastor of the Foursquare Church, assisted by the Rev. Elvin Wells, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Survivors are his wife, LaVera Lucille; a son, Marvin Lee Eaton, Sr. of Newton; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph J. (Sandra Sue) Gobb of Newton; five grandchildren; a step-brother, Harold Wooten of Des Moines; and a step-sister, Mrs. Charlie (Mildred) Witt of Douds. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Wayne Edward in 1958, and an infant son.

The son of George J. and Ether Fuller Eaton, he was born March 25, 1921 in Newton. He was married to LaVera L. Walker July 26, 1941 in Lancaster, MO. ~ Newton Daily News, Sept 8, 1989


Roy Lester Anderson

(Research):Funeral services for Roy L. Anderson, 79, 209 W. 9th St. N., a long-time resident of Newton, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. The Rev. David Raymond, pastor of the Congregational United Church of Christ will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today and visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials in his name or to the Congregational United Church of Christ will be accepted. Mrs. Anderson died of heart failure Wednesday at his home.

Survivors are his wife, Yvonna; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Chris of Monroe, Steve and Judy of Cedar Rapids and Tom and Susan of Newton; three daughters, Helen (Mrs. Jerry) Banes of Cedar Rapids and Diane (Mrs. Mark) Babcock and Sally (Mrs. Bob) Colby, both of Newton; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are three brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee and Helen and the Rev. Allen and Louise , all of Newton, and Bob and Doris of Isle, Minn., and a sister Gladyce Anderson of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents, a 23-month-old son, BIllie and a son, Samuel, in infancy.

Mr. Anderson was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ. He was a truck driver for CGB Printing. The son of Clifford and Mayme Dunn Anderson, he was born Feb. 19, 1917 at Prairie City. He was graduated from Newton Community High School and IBM business courses. H was married to Yvonna Mae Walkers May 14, 1939 at the Open Bible Church in Pella. ~ Newton Daily News, March 29, 1996

Funeral services for Della F. Moore, 71 of 915 W. 4th St. S., will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Foursquare Church with the Rev. James Black, pastor of the church and the Rev. Ellen Deere officiating. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Thursday. Visitation after 1 p.m. Thursday. Visitation with the family will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. She died Tuesday, April 15, of heart failure, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

The daughter of John W. and Della Pearl (Hitchler) Walker, she was born Sept 26, 1925, in Malaka Township. She married William L. "Bill" Moore April 23, 1944, in Newton. A lifelong resident of Jasper county she was employed by the Walker Cafe, Vernon Company and Newton Health Care Center. She was a member of the Foursquare Church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Carol of Newton; a daughter, Maxine of Newton; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Yvonna Anderson of Newton, Ramah and Ivan Walker of Newton and Roberta and Jim Barkley of Wichita, Kan.; several nieces and nephews. William Lewis Moore

Funeral services for William L. "Bill" Moore, 64 of 915 W. 4th St. S., a resident of Newton since 1944, were held today, Nov 13, at the Foursquare Church. The Rev. James Black, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Joseph Babcock, pastor emeritus, conducted services. Burial was in Newton Union Cemetery. Visitation with the family was held Sunday at Wallace-Pence Fun earl Home. Memorial contributions to a fund in his name may be left at the funeral home. He died Friday at his home following a heart attack.
Survivors are his wife, Della; a son, Don of Newton; a daughter, Maxine Moore of Newton; two grandchildren; and a brother Marvin Moore of Marshalltown. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Mr. Moore, a member of the Foursquare Church, had worked in maintenance at the Maytag Co. until retiring May 31, 1976. The son of Homer and Sarah Beason Moore, he was born Aug. 17, 1925 in Montezuma and attended Laurel schools. He was married to Della Walker April 23, 1944 in Newton. ~ Newton Daily News, Nov 10, 1989
