Leo Marie Wilson

(Research): Leo Marie Walker, Prairie City - Leo Marie Wilson Walker, 83, a lifelong resident of the Prairie City community, died Tuesday, Ma6y 26, at the Clearview Manor in Prairie City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City.

Elder Arthur Nichols of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Knoxville will conduct services and burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery south of Prairie City. Family visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Survivors are four children, Coleen (Mrs. Albert) Keuning of Prairie City, Duane "Tough" Walker of Reason, Shirley (Mrs. Ernest) Funk of Newton and Herbert "Buck" Walker of Prairie City; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Floyd Wilson of Monroe and Forrest Wilson of Prairie City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elsmer, a sister, Cordella Van Wyngarden and a Granddaughter, Regina Walker. Mrs. Walker was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the United Methodist Women and a member of the Happy Hour Club and the Pleasant Hill Community Club.

The daughter of David Clyde and Mary Elizabeth Johnson Wilson, she was born Aug 8, 1903 near Prairie City. She was married to Elsmer Walker Feb 10, 1925 at Mitchellville.~ Newton Daily News, May 27, 1987


76. Glen Edwin Walker

(Research):Glen E. Walker, 92, of the 1700 block of Northeast 80th Street, Altoona, died of a heart ailment Sunday at Luther Park Health Center. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Altoona Funeral Home. Burial will be at Canfield Cemetery in Ivy.

Mr. Walker was born in Monroe and lived most of his life in Altoona. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Ivy Centennial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Doris Heaberlin of Altoona, Roberta Marshall of Rapid City, S.D., and Vivian Tingley of Runnells; a son, Floyd of Altoona, two sisters, Juanita Shoemake and Aletha Woods, both of Newton; 212 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mamie Mae Herwehe

Mamie M. Walker, 84, of 1440 NE 80th St, Altoona, died of cancer Friday at Parkridge Manor Care Center, 4755 Parkridge Ave, Pleasant Hill. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Altoona Funeral Home, with burial at Canfield Cemetery in Ivy. Mrs. Walker was born in Percy and had lived in Altoona most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Ivy Centennial Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Glen; three daughters, Vivian Tingley of Runnells, Doris Heaberlin of Altoona and Roberta Marshall of Rapid City, S.D.; a son, Floyd of Altoona; a brother, Randall Herweh of Lakeland, Fla.; 23 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. Grace Irene Dammeier, 87, a resident of the Jasper County Care Facility, died of heart failure Sunday morning, Jan 5, at the care facility. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Newton Foursquare Church with the Rev. Robert Hinshaw, chaplain of the Jasper Country Care Facility, officiating.

Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton. Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton after 8 a.m. Tuesday where the family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorial in her name may be left at the funeral home.

Mrs. Dammeier was born May 4, 1909, in Monroe, the daughter of Jefferson Murry and Leona Mae Hitchler Walker. She married Lewis Henry Dammeier Dec 16, 1928, in Newton. A lifelong resident of Jasper County, she was a homemaker. She was a charter member of the Newton Foursquare Church a member of TOPS Iowa 689, a member of the Hook and Needle Club and taught Sunday school for 2 and 3 year olds for many years.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Derald and Darlene Dammeier of Indianola and Murry and Diane Dammeier of Newton; six daughters and three sons-in-law, Hilma Mae and Don McKinney and Arlene and Ray Boyer, all of Newton; Marceda and Larry Romick of Monroe; Merita Dammeier of Arcadia, Calif., Roma Mosher of Ottumwa and Luella Bragg and her special friend, Sam, of Grinnell; 31 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Glen Walker of Altoona and Hubert Walker of Des Moines; two sisters, Juanita Shoemake and Aletha Woody, both of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who died Jan. 25, 1982; a daughter, Vera Boles; two sons-in-law, Keith Boles and Dick Mosher; a sister Elveretta Prindle; two brothers, Doyle and Elsmer Walker; and a great-granddaughter. ~ Newton Daily News, January 6, 1997

Lewis H. Dammeier rites scheduled Thursday morning. Newton - Funeral services for Lewis H. Dammeier, 76 of 165 E 15th St. S., a life time resident of Jasper County and longtime farmer in the Metz Community, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Foursquare Church.

The Rev. Ellis Ryherd, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Elvin Wells, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wallace Funeral Home after 11 a.m. today. Memorial contributions to a fund in Mr. Dammeier's name will be accepted. Memorial may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Grace, two sons, Derald of Indianola and Murry of Newton; six daughters, Mrs. Don (Hilma Mae) McKinney, Mrs. Ray (Arlene) Boyer and Roma Roberts, all of Newton; Merita Dammeier of Alhambra, Calif., Mrs. Larry (Marceda) Romick of Monroe and Mrs. George (Luella) Bragg of Covington, Okla.; 28 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, George of Newton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Vera Boles in 1975, a brother, Clarence, and a great-grandchild.

Mr. Dammeier, a member of the Foursquare Church, had taught Sunday school for several years. The son of Charles and Hilma Lind Dammeier, he was born July 15, 1905 on a farm southwest of Newton and was a 1924 graduate of Newton Community High School. Wilfred C. "Willie" Shoemake, 88 of 1743 S 8th Ave. E. , died of heart failure, Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Foursquare Church in Newton with the Rev. James Black, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton. Friends may call after noon at the church where family will be present Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. The Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. Memorials in Mr. Shoemake's name will be accepted.
The son of Charles and Wilhemina Jensen Shoemake, he was born Oct 23, 1910, in Lacey. He married Juanita Marie Walker Nov 30, 1939, in Newton. A resident of Newton for 70 years, he also lived in Lacey and South Dakota. Mr. Shoemake was employed by the Parsons Company for 31 years and by the UAW Union Hall for 18 years. He was a member of the Newton Foursquare Church and a past member of the UAW Local No. 997.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Ruby of Northridge, calif. and Keith and Andrea of Newton; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Talbot of Newton; and many nieces and nephews. Maurice Leonard Woody, 75 of 608 E 13th St. N., a resident of Newton since 1950 and a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died this morning, March 9, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines following a heart attack. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Foursquare Church. The Rev. James Black, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery near Newton. Friends may call after 8 a.m. Wednesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials to the Foursquare Church will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Aletha L.; a son and daughter-in-law, Leonard L. and Becky Woody of Newton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lois L. and Glenn Shunk of Newton, Leona M. and John Metz of Stewardstown, PA.; and LaVonne E. and Dan Perkins of Newton; seven grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and a sister, Ardelle Woody of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Oakley, Hershel, Neil and Rex. Mr. Woody, a member of the Foursquare Church and United Auto Workers, Local 997, had been an assembler at the Parsons C., in Newton. Elveretta Prindle, Des Moines - Elveretta M. Walker Prindle, 58, of 2219
Searle St., Des Moines, a former resident of the Newton area, died
Wednesday, April 29, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines of a
brain tumor.

Funeral services for Mrs. Prindle, who had been ill since July, 1986, will
be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Brean Assembly of God in Des Moines.
Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery near Newton.
Friends may call at the Hamilton Funeral Home In Des Moines after 6 p.m.
today.

Survivors are her husband, Leonard; a son, Dennis of Des Moines; two
daughters, Karen Dyer of Des Moines and VIcky Dilts of San Diego, Calif.;
and six grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Hubert Walker of Des Moines and Glen Walker
of Altoona; and three sisters, Juanita Shoemake, Aletta Woody and Grace
Dammeier, all of Newton.

The daughter of Murray and Mae Walkers, she was born Sept 26, 1928 in Jasper
County. An employee of Saga Food Services in Des Moines, she had resided in
Des Moines since 1953. She was a member of the Brean Assembly of God in Des

Leonard Lee Prindle

Obituary of Leonard Prindle

Leonard Lee Prindle, 78, of Carlisle died of Alzheimer's disease Thursday at Carlisle Care Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Barean Assembly of God Church in Pleasant Hill, at which he was a member. Burial will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery in Newton.

Mr. Prindle was born in Iona, Ark., and had lived in Mitchellville as a youth. He had lived in Des Moines most of his life before moving to Carlisle five years ago. He was a retired tirebuilder with Armstrong Tire and Rubber Co. in Des Moines and a member of the local United Rubber Workers union. He enjoyed playing miniature golf and bowling.

He is survived by his wife, Mae, two daughters, Vicky Diltz of San Diego and Karen Cory of Des Moines; a son, Dennis of Des Moines; a half sister, Virginia Lloyd of San Benito, Texas, five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hamilton's Funeral Home in Des Moines. Memorial contributions may be made to his church.
