C. Steven (Steve) Hollenbeck, 59, of 1423 S. 16th Ave. W. died of a heart attack Tuesday, Dec. 25, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Newton with the Rev. Matthew Martens officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Saturday at the church where family will greet friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The family will also greet friends following the commital service during a coffee time at the church. Memorials will be accepted to First Lutheran Church in Newton or Boy Scout Troop 354.

The son of Frank and Berniece Dammeier Hollenbeck, he was born Aug. 31, 1942, in Newton. He was a graduate of Newton Senior High School and of Parsons College in Fairfield. On Nov. 2, 1974, he married Patricia L. Conn in Rock Island, Ill. He was a retired captain of the United States Army.

Mr. Hollenbeck was a member of the First Lutheran Church, assistant Boy Scoutmaster-Troup 354, Iowa National Guard volunteer, Commissioner of the Jasper County Veterans Affairs, American Legion Post 111, second vice president and interim commander, life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655, member of the Jasper County Vietnam Veterans, a 27-year member of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaac Walton League, and Fourth of July parade chairman for 10 years.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Chad of Newton; a sister and brother-in-law, Carlita and Richard Crews of Richmond, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
