Newton - Funeral services for Lewis H. Dammeier, 76 of 165 E 15th St. S., a life time resident of Jasper County and longtime farmer in the Metz Community, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Foursquare Church.
The Rev. Ellis Ryherd, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Elvin Wells, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery. Survivors are his wife, Grace, two sons, Derald of Indianola and Murry of Newton; six daughters, Mrs. Don (Hilma Mae) McKinney, Mrs. Ray (Arlene) Boyer and Roma Roberts, all of Newton; Merita Dammeier of Alhambra, Calif., Mrs. Larry (Marceda) Romick of Monroe and Mrs. George (Luella) Bragg of Covington, Okla.; 28 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, George of Newton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Vera Boles in 1975, a brother, Clarence, and a great-grandchild.
Mr. Dammeier, a member of the Foursquare Church, had taught Sunday school for several years. The son of Charles and Hilma Lind Dammeier, he was born July 15, 1905 on a farm southwest of Newton and was a 1924 graduate of Newton Community High School. Grace Irene Dammeier, 87, a resident of the Jasper County Care Facility, died of heart failure Sunday morning, Jan 5, at the care facility.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Newton Foursquare Church with the Rev. Robert Hinshaw, chaplain of the Jasper Country Care Facility, officiating.
Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton. Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton after 8 a.m. Tuesday where the family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorial in her name may be left at the funeral home.
Mrs. Dammeier was born May 4, 1909, in Monroe, the daughter of Jefferson Murry and Leona Mae Hitchler Walker. She married Lewis Henry Dammeier Dec 16, 1928, in Newton. A lifelong resident of Jasper County, she was a homemaker. She was a charter member of the Newton Foursquare Church a member of TOPS Iowa 689, a member of the Hook and Needle Club and taught Sunday school for 2 and 3 year olds for many years.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Derald and Darlene Dammeier of Indianola and Murry and Diane Dammeier of Newton; six daughters and three sons-in-law, Hilma Mae and Don McKinney and Arlene and Ray Boyer, all of Newton; Marceda and Larry Romick of Monroe; Merita Dammeier of Arcadia, Calif., Roma Mosher of Ottumwa and Luella Bragg and her special friend, Sam, of Grinnell; 31 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Glen Walker of Altoona and Hubert Walker of Des Moines; two sisters, Juanita Shoemake and Aletha Woody, both of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who died Jan. 25, 1982; a daughter, Vera Boles; two sons-in-law, Keith Boles and Dick Mosher; a sister Elveretta Prindle; two brothers, Doyle and Elsmer Walker; and a great-granddaughter. ~ Newton Daily News, January 6, 1997

METZ -- Clarence C. Dammeier, 66, of Rt. 2, Newton, a lifelong resident of the Metz community, died Sunday morning at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Johnson Funeral Chapel.
Harold Den Hartog of the Metz Church will conduct the services. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Wednesday.
Survivors are his wife, Fern, of Farmers City, Ill.; two sons, Charles of Newton and Donald of Farmers City, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Doris) Bosma of Melbourne, Mrs. Tom (Becky) of Schroyer of Baxter and Mrs. Barbara Fults of Newton; two grandsons; two granddaughters; and two brothers, Lewis and George, both of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Marvel, and a grandson.
Mr. Dammeier was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Newton.
He was a farmer.
The son of Charles and Hilma Lind Dammeier, he was born Mar. 17, 1907 southwest of Newton near Metz. He was educated in Jasper County schools.

METZ - Mrs. Clarence (Lucille Fern) Dammeier, 75, of Rt. 2, Newton, a resident of the Metz community since 1929, died Thursday morning at her home.

Obituary: Charles Dammeier
Charles Dammeier, 67, of Newton died of a heart ailment Saturday at his sister's home in Baxter. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton, with burial at Sugar Grove Cemetery there.
Mr. Dammeier was a lifelong Newton resident and was a general laborer.

Car Hits Train Overpass on 1st Street N.
An autopsy was being performed today to determine the cause of death of Marvel Carol Dammeier, 14, who was injured in an auto accident in Newton near midnight Saturday.
The Dammeier girl was riding in a car with seven other persons when it struck the underpass in the 700-block of First street North, throwing her and Mrs. Mary Harlow, 20, from the car.
She was taken to Skiff where her injuries were apparently not serious although she remained in a semi-conscious state until a few minutes before she died just after midnight Sunday.
The autopsy was performed in Mercy hospital in Des Moines. Preliminary results were expected to be learned this afternoon but the complete report will not be available for several days.According to the police, the accident occurred when a car carrying eight passengers and driven by Ray cm. Dennis, 25, of Newton, struck the first concrete pillar on the left side of the underpass as Dennis' car enter it from the south.
Police said skid marks were left for about 150 feet from a deep dip in front of the underpass to the point of the impact with the point of impact with the support pillar.AFter hitting the supporting pillar, the car careened backwards through the underpass.
The front doors apparently were knocked open by the impact and Marvel Dammeier and Mrs. Harlow were thrown out of the car. Mrs. Harlow was treated at Skiff hospital and released Saturday night.
Also riding in the car were Rebecca Dammeier, Marvel's twin sister; Barbara Dammeier, 12, another sister; Earl Farr, 17 of Newton, Tommie Smith, 17 of Newton and Cathleen Buckley, 14 of Newton.
A charge of reckless driving has been filed against Dennis. His 1947 model auto was demolished in the crash.Marvel Dammeier was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Dammeier of Route 2, Newton.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Johnson Funeral home. Burial will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery.
She was born in Newton on Dec. 26, 1941. All her life had been spent in Newton.
In addition to her parents and the sisters named, she is survived by another sister, Mrs. Donald Bosma of Melbourne; two brothers, Charlesand Donald, both of the home; her grandmothers, Mrs. W. O. Robbins, LeRoy, Ill., and Mrs. Hilma Dammeier of Newton.

George E. Dammeier, 78, of Rt. 2, Newton, died Sunday morning, Feb. 6, at Skiff Medical Center of cardiac arrest.

Newton - Funeral services for Mrs. George (Evelyn M.) Dammeier, 64, of Rt. 2, Newton, were held today at the Reese Chapel.

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Della Hand, 89, of San Jose, Calif., formerly of Newton, died of congestive heart failure, Thursday, July 3, in Los Gatos, Calif.Funeral services and burial will be in California.
The daughter of Fred and Emma (Steiglitz) Dammeier, she was born Sept. 30, 1907. She was a graduate of Newton High School.
She married Roy Hand in 1928.
Mrs. Hand was employed by Jasper County Savings Bank and was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Newton before moving to California in 1959.
Survivors include a son, Edward of 101 Craig Way, Los Gatos, Calif. 95030; a daughter, Fredra (Mrs. Ron) Walsh of 592 W. Gilla Pl., Elko, Nev. 89801; a brother Karl Dammeier of Newton; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Franklin P. (Bernice M.) Hollenbeck, 67, of 515 E. 3rd St. N., a longtime resident of Newton; died Saturday afternoon at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church.
The Rev. H. Eugene Cederholm, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, north of Newton.

Frank Hollenbeck Dies; Rites Tuesday
Franklin P. Hollenbeck, 50, a Newton resident since 1929m died at Skiff hospital about noon Sunday.
Mr. Hollenbeck had been a ?ethods engineer at the Maytag Company for 22 years. He lived at 515 East Third street North.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ralph Eckard officiating. Johnson Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are his wife, Bernice; one daughter, Mrs. Richard Crews of Newton; one son, Steve, at home, two sisters, Mrs. Elmer ?ddy Jr., and Mrs. Virgil Dudley, ? of Centerville; and one granddaughter, Allene Crews.
The deceased was born to Arthur and Isabelle Hollenbeck at Exline, Ia., Oct. 12, 1904. He married Bernice Dammeier April 25, 1931.

Mrs. Leonard (Bessie) Tinnermeier, 46, of route 1, Newton, died at 6:15 am Monday at the Skiff Memorial hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday at the St. John’s United Church of Christ north of Newton.
The Rev. Albert Brueggermann will conduct the services. Burial will be in St. John’s cemetery.
Johnson funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Tinnermeier is survived by her husband; a son, Mark, at home; her mother, Mrs. Emma Dammeier of Newton; two sisters, Mrs. Roy Hand of Gilroy, Calif., and Mrs. Bernice Hollenbeck of Newton; and a brother, Karl Dammeier of Newton.
Mrs. Tinnermeier, a member of the St. John’s church was confirmed in the First Lutheran church in Newton.
She was past Jasper county women’s chairman of the Farm Bureau and a member of the Mariposa Grange.
The daughter of Fred and Emma Dammeier, she was born northeast of Newton September 10, 1914.
Educated in Jasper county schools, she was graduated from Newton high school in 1932.
Mrs. Tinnermeier was married November 27, 1938 at St. John’s church near Newton to Leonard Tinnermeier.

Leonard L. Tinnermeier, 79, of Careage of Newotn, formerly of Rt. 1, Newton, died Friday evening, Oct. 18, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines following a heart attack.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. Scott Coulter, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, north of Newton.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Tinnermeier, a farmer, was past president of the Jasper County Farm Bureau, director of Marshall County Rural Electric Cooperative for 39 years, director of the Central Iowa Power Cooperative for 13 years and a member of the board of the Farmers Co-Op of Gilman for many years.
The son of Henry and Katherine Diehm Tinnermeier, he was born Oct. 2, 1912, in Jasper County and attended Jasper County Schools and Newton Community High School.
He was married to Bessie Loraine Dammeier Nov. 27, 1938 in St. John’s Church, north of Newton.
