37. William Dammeier

SUNDAY MARKED THREE INTERESTING EVENTS FOR WM. DAMEIERS OF LENA

The country home of William Dameier, near Lena, was the scene of unusual festivities Sunday, mark­ing the thirty-eighth wedding anni­versary of the host and his wife, the baptism of their third grandchild, Mark Dameier Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Brown, of Rockford, son-in-law and daughter of the William Dameiers, and a family reunion of the Dameier clan. In the evening, thirty-eight relatives gathering around the open fireplace for refreshments.

It was the first time in twenty years that two of the Dameier sisters, Mrs. Marie Dameier Swaney and Luella Dameier Yeich, had met. The former had lived in Colorado but has just moved to Carthage, Ill., and Rev. Vernon B. Yeich and family live In Gouldsboro. Pa.

Out of town guests who enjoyed the reunion were: Rev. Vernon B. Yeich and family, of Gouldsboro, Pa.. Dennis Swaney and family, Carthage. William Dameier, Lena

Lena. Ill.. Jan. 15.-William Dameier, 62. well known resident of Stephenson county, passed away about 6:40 o’clock Sunday morning at his home about a mile south of Lena following an extended illness.

Mr. Dameier was born in Stephen­son county June 27. 1877, the son of Adolph and Mary Dameier. On June 20, 1900, he was united in marriage ,with Miss Clara Altenbern. Mr. Dameier was a faithful member of Lena Amity Lutheran church, was superintendent of the Sunday school for a number of years and also taught the Woman’s Sunday school class.

He is survived by his widow, two daughters. Mrs. Frank Beck and Mrs. Mark Brown, of Rockford, three grandchildren, eight brothers and sisters, Charles Dameier, of Sutherland, Nebr: Mrs. Marie Swaney, of Carthage, Ill.; Mrs. Almyra Love, of Salem, Ill.; Mrs. Luella Yeich, of Gauldsboro, Pa.; Miss Carrie Dameier, of Freeport; Rufus Dameier, of Kent, David and Benjamin Dameier of Lena.

Funeral services will be herd at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon from the Leamon funeral home in Lena. Rev W. Carl Satre and Rev. B. F. Obituaries Evelyn Dameier FREEPORT -
Evelyn Dameier, 93, of Freeport died Saturday, June 11, 2005, at Parkview Home, where she had been a resident for seven years. Born on Feb. 28, 1912, she was the eldest daughter of Rufus Frank and Ella Mae (Finkenbinder) Dameier, on the family farm in Lena.

Evelyn was a graduate of Lena High School and received her teaching certificate and bachelor's degree from Carthage College in Carthage and her master's degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis. Miss Dameier began her teaching career at Kent country school and also taught at several other country schools in the area before coming to Freeport. She was a teacher in Freeport School District 145 and was the principal at Lincoln School until retiring in 1977.

Her memberships included Freeport Education Association (FEA), IEA and NEA, Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma educational society, Alpha Mu Chapter, and she was chosen as an honorary member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Evelyn also was the recipient of an Illinois Conservation Teacher of the Year Award. An active member of First Lutheran Church, she sang in the church choir, was an organizer of the Lutheran Singers and O.W.L.S., was a member of W.E.L.C.A., transported members and held many offices in the church groups.

Other memberships included Northwest Illinois Audubon Society, Soil and Water Conservation District, Stephenson County Farm Bureau and Stephenson County Home Extension. She gave years of dedicated service to each organization, and held many offices in each. Miss Dameier was a member of Stephenson County Historical Society for many years and was instrumental in bringing the original log cabin from the Pearl City area to the grounds of the historical society. For many years she gave historical tours of Freeport during Tutty Baker Days.

She was a nominee for YWCA's Women of Excellence Award. Evelyn was a loving person with an insatiable appetite for the environment, birds, flowers and trees. She loved teaching and always was a teacher in all that she did. She enjoyed attending auctions and finding a bargain. She loved canning jams and jellies, and entered and received many awards at the fair for her efforts. She would make angel food cakes to present with the "Happy Birthday" song to anyone with a birthday.

Evelyn was known for her generosity as well as her frugality. Surviving family members include one sister, Leona Budd of Molalla, Ore.; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Dameier of Davis; her nieces and nephews, Richard (Bonnie) Budd of Keizer, Ore., Janice (Larry) Gockel of Seattle, Gayle (Maurice) O'Grady of Mulino, Ore., Marilynn Colman of Santa Maria, Calif., Donna (Roger) Schoch of Dakota, Lynnette (Greg) White of Harlan, Iowa, Beth Ann Dameier of Morgantown, W.Va., Margo (Martin) Cohen of Hood River, Ore., Gene Dameier of Rockford and Duane Dameier of Madison, Wis.; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews; many cousins; and her very close friends, Warren and Dee Burstrom of Freeport.

Preceding her in death were her parents; twin brothers, Elvin and Melvin Dameier; one sister, Dorothy Wirth; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Budd and Stanley Wirth; nieces and nephews, twins Barbara Webster and Beverly Lamoreux and Leonard and James Budd.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Neville Kretzmann officiating. Burial will be at Lena Burial Park in Lena. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Walker Mortuary. A memorial fund has been established in her name for First Lutheran Church, or memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Leona Almyra (Dameier) Budd, 1939, Silverton, Ore., Sept. 25, 2005 Mrs. Budd was the last of a generation of Carhage alunmi in her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth W. Budd, '39; two sisters, Evelyn Dameier, '50, and Dorothy (Dameier) Wirth, '70; and a sister-in-law, Mary Kathryn (Budd) Warren, '39.
