Boedeker 2 CONT 2 CONT Year in and year out Louis A. Boedeker concentrates his time and energies upon the work of ti 2 CONC lling the soil and raising stock, and substantial results have rewarded his efforts in his cu 2 CONC ltivation of a farm of one hundred and twenty acres, which he owns and occupies in Kent towns 2 CONC hip. He was born in the city of Freeport, May 9, 1864, and is a son of Adolph Boedeker, a nat 2 CONC ive of Germany. When a young man he came to the new world. He was a stone masom by trade an 2 CONC d became closely associated with building operations in Stephenson county, erecting the prese 2 CONC nt courthouse at Freeport, the Baptist and Presbyterian churches and a number of business blo 2 CONC cks. For a long period he carried on contracting and building there and his efficiency in tha 2 CONC t line and his reliability in all business transactions brought him a liberal patronage. He b 2 CONC ought the land upon which his son Louis now resides, later erected a good two-story brick dwe 2 CONC lling, also a big barn and made other improvements in keeping with the spirit of modern agric 2 CONC ultural progress. He cleared the land, for at the time of his purchase it was largely covere 2 CONC d with brush and timber, and after turning the furrows he planted the seeds and in course o 2 CONC f time gathered good harvests. For a number of years he carried on farming and there passed a 2 CONC way in 1888. While living in Freeport he was married to Miss Henrietta Danimeier, a lady o 2 CONC f German birth, who survived her husband until the 1st of August, 1905 when she too passed aw 2 CONC ay. In the family of this worthy couple were two sons and three daughters: Fred, who is now l 2 CONC iving in Spooner, Wisconsin; Mrs. Frank Heyer, of Kent township; Mrs. Henry Kimball, also o 2 CONC f Kent township; and Mrs. Albert Laher, of the same township. 2 CONT 2 CONT Louis A. Boedeker, the other member of the family, was reared on the home farm and educated i 2 CONC n Freeport, completing the high-school course. His business training was received under the d 2 CONC irection of his father but he assisted in the work of the fields from the time of early sprin 2 CONC g planting until crops were harvested in the late autumn. He learned when to sow and how to p 2 CONC lant the fields so that the best results could be obtained and after his father’s death he su 2 CONC cceeded to the ownership of the old farm, whereon he yet makes his home. The work of improvem 2 CONC ent is carried steadily forward and the place presents a well kept and attractive appearance 2 CONC . Stock raising forms an important feature of his business as he makes a specialty of raisin 2 CONC g good shorthorn cattle and high grade Duroc Jersey hogs, fattening a carload of hogs each ye 2 CONC ar for the market. He also raises some fine Belgian horses and conducts a dairy business. 2 CONT 2 CONT Mr. Boedeker’s political interests center in the republican party for he believes that its p 2 CONC rinciples contain the best elements of good government, but he has never sought nor held offi 2 CONC ce. The family is well known in Freport [sic] and throughout the county, having been establis 2 CONC hed there in pioneer times, and Louis A. Boedeker is numbered among the public-spirited citiz 2 CONC ens who, recognizing opportunities for the growth and development of the county, gives his s 2 CONC upport to various measures for its progress and improvement. His sterling worth is recognize 2 CONC d by many friends and his social qualities have won him the high regard of those with whom bu 2 CONC siness or social relations have brought him in contact. ~ History of Stephenson County, Illin 2 CONC ois: a record of its settlement, organization, and three-quarters of a century of progress; b 2 CONC y Addison L.
