Evelyn M. Benskin, 87, of Cheyenne, died Nov. 1 at Cheyenne Health Care Center.

She was born April 21, 1916, in Buckingham, Colo., and had lived here since 1958 with prior residence in Pine Bluffs.

Mrs. Benskin was a waitress.

She is survived by a son, Michael Benskin of Cheyenne; a daughter, Joan Wilkinson of Cheyenne; four sisters, Lillian Harold of Orlando, Leta Gray of Missouri, Imogene Perry of Portland, Ore., and Irmagene Anderson of California; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Budde; her parents, Randolph and Kumi Davis; and a brother, Merle Davis.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes.

Interment will be in Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

Helen Macel, the daughter of William Elmer and Nellie Ruth (Todd) Jones was born on July 17, 1911, in Harrison County, Missouri. She attended Danford country school and graduated from Hatfield High School.

On Dec. 24, 1931, she was married to Roy Wayne Ballew at Bethany, Missouri. They lived and farmed in the area until Roy's death in June of 1938. She then enrolled in cosmetology school in Des Moines, Iowa. Following graduation, she moved to Sidney in 1938 and began a career in cosmetology, which spanned 37 years as the owner and operator of Helen's Beauty Salon.

On May 30, 1968, she was married to Lawrence Preston "Pat" Benskin in Sidney. Pat died in March of 1981.

She was a 50-plus year member of the First United Methodist Church in Sidney.

She was a charter member and long-time treasurer of the Surviving Spouses Organization (SSO), treasurer of the Panhandle Fiddlers Association and Goal Gainers Extension Club.

She enjoyed music, crafts, travel, painting, poetry and family.

Survivors include her daughter, Beulah (Willis) Lenz of Sidney; step-daughter, Joan (Harold) Wilkinson of Cheyenne, Wyo.; five step-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Audrey Woodward of Paul, Idaho, and Donna Schardein of Indianola, Iowa, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

General Notes: Funeral Services were held Wednesday for Landon L. (Landy) Dodson, 59, Vancouver, Wash., owner of "Landy" Dodson Spiralock, Inc., in Vancouver. He died Monday at his home. Born in Hereford, Colo., Mr. Dodson lived in Portland from 1953 to 1969, when he moved to Vancouver.

Research Notes: Obituary: Landon Dodson, former Lewistonian, dead
Landon Dodson, a former resident of Lewiston, died at his Vancouver, Wash., home Monday after suffering a heart attach. He was 59. Dodson was a native of Lewiston and was educated here. He married Charlotte Phillips in 1938 at Lewiston and worked for a time at Largent's an appliance firm. He moved to Santa Maria, Calif., in 1941 and operated an appliance business. He was in the Army during World War II.
The family moved to Portland in 1951 and later to Vancouver. He operated a tire retreading business there. Survivors include his widow at the family home, a daughter, Sylvia Bruce, and two sons, Jim and Landon, all of Portland, and a brother Doug, of Lewiston. The funeral will be held today at Vancouver. ~ The Lewiston Tribune, Wed., Nov 26, 1975.

General Notes: Service Honors PFI War Dead

Twenty-four Potlatch Forests, Inc. war dead were honored yesterday morning at a memorial services at the firm's Clearwater plant. A memorial drive running from the plant entrance gate to a junction where the road splits to different plant areas was dedicated. Plaques on the first 12 trees on each side of the drive, bearing names of the company employees who died in the service, were unveiled. C.L. Billings, PFI general manager, paid tribute to the war dead in the principal address.

"These trees on the memorial drive will grow to full maturity in the years to come . . . and in the years in which these trees are growing we shall have many homely reminders of the priceless worth of what these men have done for us," Billings said.

The Rev. Orrin Consear gave the invocation. D.S. Troy, plant manager, made introductory remarks. The Lewiston high school band paraded down the drive to a large honor roll bearing names of 300 PFI men who entered the armed forces before the ceremony.

Each of the 24 plaques were shrouded with an American flag, which was removed and presented to a member of the serviceman's family attending. A military salute and taps were given after the flag had been lowered to half mast.

Families of the war dead were company guests at lunch at the plant cafeteria after the service. Each family had a plant foreman as host.

ARLINGTON - Jackie Benskin Morris, 89, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2007, in Arlington.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday in the Main Chapel of Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home in Houston. Interment: Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home.

Jackie Benskin Morris was born Feb. 11, 1918, in San Antonio to Charles and Ruby Benskin. Jackie was the oldest of five children. She grew up in Texas City, where she married Raymond Morris in 1937 and went on to rear two children there. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Texas City and, later in retirement, the United Methodist Church of Marble Falls. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she brought joy to all who knew her. She took great pleasure in entertaining and being with her many friends and family. A wonderful cook, she could have a meal on the table in a moment's notice. She enjoyed sewing, handwork and bridge and was always ready to play any game.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Hazel, Dorothy and Violet; brother, Charles; her loving husband, Raymond; and one grandson, Christopher Anderson.

Survivors: Son, Ray Morris and wife, Susan, of Dickinson; daughter, Beverly Anderson and husband, Phil, of Arlington; grandchildren, Julie Ochs and husband, Phil, of Cobham, England, Mike Morris of Houston, Leslie McGilberry and husband, Scott, of Nashville, Tenn., Patrick Anderson and wife, Sheila, of Fort Worth and Stephen Morris and wife, Leah, of Paonia, Colo.; and great-grandchildren, Chandler and Tyler Ochs, Jackie and Allie McGilberry and Sydney Anderson.

DECATUR - Harriett R. Bensken, 98, of Decatur died 2:30 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 27, 2003) in Lincoln Manor nursing facility.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Cartwright Cemetery, Tuscola. No visitation. Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Ms. Bensken was born Sept. 12, 1905, in Tuscola, the daughter of James and Maude Bogard Reedy. She was retired from St. Mary's Hospital, having been a practical nurse.

Surviving are her daughter, Doris Nelson of Springfield; sister, Ethel Waters of Las Vegas, Nev.; brother, Neal Reedy of Morton; four grandchildren; many great-grandchildren.

DECATUR - Harriett R. Bensken, 98, of Decatur died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 26, 2003) at the Lincoln Manor nursing facility, Decatur.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cartwright Cemetery, Tuscola. The Rev. Allen Kemme will officiate. Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, 515 W Wood St., Decatur, is in charge of arrangements.

There will be no visitation.

Ms. Bensken was born Sept. 12, 1905, in Tuscola, a daughter of James and Maude Bogard Reedy.

Survivors include a daughter, Doris Nelson of Springfield; four grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a brother, Neal Reedy of Morton; and a sister, Ethel Waters of Las Vegas.

She was preceded in death by a son and four brothers.

Ms. Bensken retired following a career as a licensed practical nurse at St. Mary's Hospital.
