Born: May 8, 1827 in New York1 Joseph Worden Dies At New York HomeJoseph Worden, who lived in the vicinity of Sugar Grove for many years, died in Oswego, N.Y., at the home of his nephew who resides on a fruit farm belonging to Mr. Worden. Mr. Worden was past 80 years of age, and was well known to many of the people of Newton. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock, from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Willis Campbell, who resides near Colfax. Catherine (Smith) Worden
Born: April 3, 1831, Columbus, Franklin Co., Ohio Mrs. Worden DeadMrs. Joseph Worden, living five miles west of Newton, died on Tuesday, March 20, 1900, after only a week's illness, the disease being paralysis of the spine. Catherine Smith was born near Columbus, Ohio, Feb. 3, 1831. She came to Iowa when about twenty years of age. On October 28, 1855, she was married at Cedar Rapids, to Joseph Worden. It was about thirty years ago that the family moved to Jasper County, and this has been their home ever since. To them three children were born. Arling M. Worden, of St. Joseph, Mo.; Mrs. Delia Stansbury, of Cedar Rapids; and Celina, now Mrs. Willis Campbell of Mound Prairie Township, all of whom were with their mother, at her death. Her husband also survives her. Mrs. Worden united with the U. B. church at Western College, many years ago, and has remained a member of that church ever since. The funeral was held at the Sugar Grove church, on Thursday morning, at eleven o'clock, and the body was taken to the Metz cemetery, and there tenderly laid away. ~ The Iowa State Democrat, March 29, 1900 1. 1900 Census, Mound Prairie Township.
