Squire S. Sims
Born: March 2, 1825 in Putnam Co., Indiana Death of S. S. SimsSquire Shelby Sims died at his home four miles west of Newton, Friday evening, July 16, 1897, at 9 o'clock p.m., aged 72 years. Mr. Sims was born in Indiana March 2, 1825, and moved to Kentucky with his parents while in his youth. In a few years, however, they returned to Indiana, where he was married to Miss Elzie Jane Christy. With his family he moved to Jasper county in 1851, taking up from the government the land on which he had since resided. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Sims, six of whom are still living: Mrs. Austin Halliwill of Metz, Mrs. Geo L. Ramsey of Seward, Nebr., Mrs. W. H. Moffit of Harvard, Nebr., S. W. Sims and Mrs. W. T. Kennedy of Newton and James L. Sims of Metz. A daughter Mrs. Henry Houck, of Newton, died within the past two years. ~ The Newton Record, July 25, 1897. |
Eliza Jane (Christy) Sims
Born: December 16, 1828 born in Virginia6 DiedMrs. S. S. Sims died at her home in Sherman Township, Monday morning, April 24, 1888 at six o'clock, of Pleuro Pneumonia. The deceased was one of God's noble women, and her death will cause deep sorrow in many hearts and homes outside of own home and family circle. Her two daughters, Mrs. George Ramsey and Mrs. Wm. Moffit, of Nebraska, were summoned by telegraph and arrived last Saturday, in time to see their mother alive, and with the other loved ones, received from her last farewell. Mrs. Sim's age was nearly 62. She leaves a husband, two sons and five daughters. The funeral services will be held at the home, this afternoon at two'o'clock, conducted by Rev. I. O. Kemble. ~ Newton Journal, April 26, 1888.
