Elmer M. Reeder Jr.: Elmer M. “Bill” Reeder Jr., 68, of 1208 N. 4th Ave. E.
died of congestive heart failure Saturday, Sept. 6, at Skiff Medical Center
in Newton.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Wallace Family
Funeral Home in Newton with Pastor Eugene Bucklin of the Evangelical Free
Church in Baxter officiating. Private family burial will be at Sugar Grove
Cemetery in rural Newton.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the
funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County Capital
Campaign and may be left at the funeral home.
The son of Elmer M. and Mildred L. (Pence) Reeder, he was born Jan. 21, 1935
in Russell. He attended school in Chariton. On July 13, 1953, he married
Dorothy Jean Kohler in Des Moines. He worked at Maytag for 47 years and
retired in 2000 as a supervisor. He moved to Newton in 1952.
Mr. Reeder enjoyed fishing, hunting and going to casinos. He was a past
member of Maytag Management Club and the Izaak Walton League.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Crook of
Newton, Cheryl and John Houseman of Des Moines, Diane and Bill Webster of
Newton and Edie and Carl Simmons of Baxter; nine grandchildren; 16
great grandchildren; and many aunts and uncles.

Dorothy’s funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, June 1st at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, May 31st at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the Sugar Grove Cemetery in Metz.

Dorothy J. Kohler Reeder, the daughter of Carl and Mary Bryan Kohler was born on July 19, 1929 in Iowa City, Iowa.
On July 13, 1953, Dorothy was united in marriage with Elmer M. Reeder in Des Moines, Iowa. Dorothy worked in the kitchen at the Skiff Medical Center from 1977-1991. She had also sold Avon for many years. Dorothy was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Baxter and she was also a member of Avon’s President’s Club. She enjoyed reading, traveling and collecting Barbie dolls.
Dorothy died on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at her home in Newton. She was 88. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elmer Reeder and two half brothers.
Those left to cherish Dorothy’s memory are her daughters, Karen Crook of Newton, Cheryl (John) Houseman of Des Moines, Diane (Bill) Webster of Newton and Edie (Corky) Simmons of Baxter; nine grandchildren, Tina (Jerry) Templeton of Rochester, Minnesota, Christopher (Chrissy) Hawkins of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, Debbie (Tony) Gulling of Newton, Kimberly (Eric) Templeton of Des Moines, Malisa Subdon of Des Moines, James (Katie) Houseman of Des Moines, Tonia (Kris) Flora of Baxter, Heather (Jody) Wenzel of Diamond Head Lake and Ashley Lively of Des Moines; her many great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren. ~ https://www.wallacefamilyfuneralhome.com/notices/Dorothy-Reeder
