News Item

Griffin Rafenburg, who live 6 miles northwest of the city dropped dead this morning. Heart failure was the cause. He was 72 years of age and leaves a wife and three children. ~ The Newton Daily News, October 30, 1905.

Mrs. Martha Rifenburg of Sherman, is Dead

Mrs. Martha Rifenburg, 69 years old died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Oscar Korff northwest of this city last night. The cause of her death is given as a complication of diseases, she having been in poor health for more than a year. She had been a resident of Sherman township for nearly forty years.

Mrs. Martha Rifenburg was born in Kentucky, April 11, 18504. When she was 29 years old she moved to Iowa and Jasper county and since that time she had always made her home in Sherman township. After the death of her husband, about thirteen years ago, she went to live with her daughter Mrs. Korff. Mrs. Korff is an only child. Three brothers of Mrs. Rifenburg, George, Lorie and Alexander, all in Kentucky and one sister Mrs. Susan Pucket in Indiana also survive her death. Mrs. Rifenburg was a member of the Methodist church.

Funeral services will be held at the Oscar Korff residence five miles northwest of Newton Monday morning at 11 o'clock. Burial will be made in Metz cemetery. ~ The Newton Daily News, February 15, 1919.
