William C. Parks

Parks Dies In MinneapolisLong Time Resident of Newton Passes Away Saturday While Visiting RelativesWhile visiting with relatives in Minneapolis, William C. Parks, a resident of this city for more than twenty-five years, died Saturday morning at 5 o'clock. He had been ill but three days. Saturday morning he suffered a stroke of apoplexy which caused his death a few hours later. He was 75 years old. William C. Parks was born in Hendrix county, Indiana, Nov. 9, 1844. In 1865 in united in marriage to Angelina Hyten and two years later came to Iowa, settling in Taylor county, where he lived for nearly twenty years. In 1890 he came to Jasper county and to Newton, where he has since lived. His wife and three children died a number of years ago. Eight children survive. They are K. L. Parks, Mrs. A.P. Green and Hugh A. Parks of Newton; J.O. Parks of Marshalltown; Guy M. Parks and Mrs. H. O. Ragen of Minneapolis, Mrs. George D. Parks of Spring Valley, Wis., and Marion D. Parks of Camp Dallas, Utah. The members of the family were all present for the funeral except for the last, who was in the training camp at Camp Dallas. The remains were brought to Newton yesterday and the funeral services held from the home of a daughter, Mrs. A.P. Green, 705 North Second avenue West, at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Rev. R. B. Hainer, pastor of the Christian church, gave the funeral address. A quartet composed of Mrs. J.R. Burr, Mrs. Wm. Reaves, A. H. Raymond and Harry Ogg furnished the music. They sang three songs: "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," "In the Sweet By and By," and "Asleep in Jesus." The pall bearers were E. C. Smith, E. C. Ogg, Josh Crawford, Charles Holden, Frank Morrow and L. D. Angelina (Hyten) Parks
Born: June 28, 1848 in Fayette Co., Kentucky Good Wife and Mother TakenThe home of Mr. Wm. C. Parks on East South street is full of sorrow on account of the death of a good wife and mother, taken from them at an early hour on Sunday morning, January 5th. Mrs. Parks had been an invalid since last spring, since which time there had been a slow but steady decline, in spite of all the efforts to arrest the disease which had from the first seemed to mark her for its prey, and finally there cam a complete breaking down of her entire system, rendering her helpless for the last three months of her life. She had been a member of the Primitive Baptist church for over a quarter of a century, and remained strong in the faith until she was called to her reward for long and faithful Christian service. Angelina Hyten was born in Fayette county, Kentucky, June 28, 1848. When about five years of age her parents moved to Cumberland county, Ill., where her mother died the following year. In 1864 her father died and she went to make her home with her uncle, James Gorrell in Hendricks county, Ind., where on the 19th day of March 1865 she was united in marriage with William C. Parks, who survives her. To them were born eleven children, eight of whom survive their mother and were with her during her last illness, viz: Mrs. Clara Munn of Marshalltown; Otha Parks of Audubon; and Karl, Buy, Margaret, Martha, Hugh and Marion. The funeral service was held at the home at 1 o'clock p.m. Monday, conducted by Rev. J. C. Willits, and the interment was at Sugar Grove cemetery about four miles west of town. ~ The Newton Record, January 9, 1902. |

Florence E. Parks
Born: August 21, 1868 in Indiana3 Obituary. -- Florence Elizabeth Parks, died at the home of her parents in Newton, July 24th, 1893. The funeral services were conducted by Pastor C. C. Harrah. The body was laid to rest in the Metz cemetery. Miss Parks was born Aug. 21, 1868. There are nine children living in the family, and she was the oldest. An attack of La Grippe three years ago lead to consumption, from which she died. She was a young woman of exceedingly lovely Christian character, and will be greatly missed in the family home and among her circle of friends. Her bereaved parents and the brothers and sisters, have the sympathy of all. The funeral services were held at the home and the attendance of friends and neighbors was large. ~ The Newton Journal, Newton Iowa, July 26, 1893. __________Miss Florence Parks died at her home in Newton last Monday aged 24 years. Rev. C. C. Harrah conducted the funeral services and the interment took place in Metz cemetery. Consumption was the cause of death. ~ Newton Herald July 28, 1893.
