Dies at Hospital;
Rites Wednesday
Mrs. F. Earl (Mary Ellen Moore) Wilson, 73, a longtime
resident of Jasper county, died at 12:10 pm Sunday at the
Skiff Memorial hospital.
Mrs. Wilson has been hospitalized more than a month.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Wednesday at
Morgan-Loehr funeral home.
The Rev. Robert Barnett, minister of the First Baptist
church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Sugar
Grove cemetery.
Mrs. Wilson is survived by three sons, Galen Moore of
Ottumwa, Riley W. Moore of Newton, and Duane Moore of
Newton; and four daughters, Mrs. Don (Doris) Herwehe of
LaPorte, Ind., Mrs. Oliver (Gladys) Griggs of Newton, Mrs.
James (Frances) Sampson of Kellogg and Mrs. John (Rozella)
Bale Jr., of Colfax; a brother Glen Stock of Colfax; a
half-sister, Mrs. Gladys Clement of Des Moines; 14
grandchildren; five great grandchildren and two
stepdaughters, Mrs. Ruby Peterson of Minneapolis, Minn., and
Miss Bonnie Wilson of Oregon.
Mrs. Wilson was a member of the Christian church.
She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors, Womans'
Relief Corps and Rebekahs.
The daughter of Joseph and Emma Berry Riley, she was born
February 13, 1887 on a farm near Baxter.
Educated in Colfax schools, she was married to Alva
Moore, who preceded her in death. She was married in
December 1945 to F. Earl Wilson who died July 39 1950.
With the exception of 17 years spent in Minnesota, she
resided her entire life in Jasper county. ~ The Newton Daily

Funeral For Alva Moore
Died in Minneapolis From Black Diptheria -- Widow Seriously Ill.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Metz cemetery for Alva Moore, who died Sunday in Minneapolis after a three day illness suffering from black diphtheria.
Dr. G. C. Williams, pastor of the Congregational church, had charge of the services.
Burial was made by the side of his small brother who died in 1890.
Alva Moore, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Moore, was born and reared in Newton and at the time of his death was 39 years of age.
Mr. Moore was a motorman on a street car in Minneapolis since leaving Newton 12 years ago.
He is survived by his widow, who is in a critical condition in a Minneapolis hospital, suffering from diphtheria. He also leaves seven children ranging in ages from 14 years to six weeks, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Moore and sisters and brothers, Allen, Curtis and Lon Moore, Mrs. Harry Skow, Mrs. Bert Kennedy, Mrs. Mina Spearing all of Newton, Louis Moore, of Washington, and Elzie Moore, of Rochester, Minnesota. ~ Newton Daily News, January 14, 1925, page 1.
