Allen Moore, 82, Dies Sunday;
Rites Wednesday
William Allen Moore, 82, of 306 S 3rd Ave. E., a resident
of Newton since 1926 and former Jasper County farmer, died
Sunday afternoon at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday
afternoon at the Johnson-Reese Chapel. The Rev. Richard
Bentzinger, pastor of the United Methodist Church, will
conduct services. Burial will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery
at Metz.
Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society
will be accepted.
Friends may call at the Johnson-Reese Chapel after 10
o'clock Tuesday morning.
Survivors are his wife, Alta; a son, Francis of Newton;
two daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Mozelle) Stech of Hampton and
Mrs. John (Darlene) Martinez of San Francisco, Calif.; nine
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs.
Dora Kennedy of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife,
Ethel Helphrey, in 1951, two sisters and five brothers.
Mr. Moore was a member of the First United Methodist
Church, Methodist Retired Men's Group, Veterans of World War
I, World War I Barracks No. 1503, Old Timers Shuffleboard
Club and was a member of the Palo Alto Grange for more than
50 years.
An employe of the Maytag Co. for 17 years, he retired in
1959.
The son of William and Augusta Moore, he was born Oct. 3,
1894 in Colfax and was educated in Colfax Schools.
He was married to Ethel Helphrey in 1920 in Newton and to
Alta Helphrey Sept. 5, 1953 in Newton. ~ The Newton Daily

Services for Friday For Mrs. Moore
At Funeral Home
Funeral services for Mrs. William Allen Moore, 53, Newton
woman who died at her home yesterday following a lingering
illness, will beheld Friday afternoon at two o'clock at
Johnson-Murdoch Funeral Home.
Officiating will be Rev. F. D. Boldt, pastor of the First
Lutheran church, and burial will be in Sugar Grove cemetery
near Metz.
Mrs. Moore was born Ethel Nadine Helphrey to Mr. and Mrs.
Lewis S. Helphrey on July 17, 1898, on a farm near Metz. She
attended Jasper county schools and a business college in Des
Moines.
She was married on Dec. 26, 1919, to William Allen Moore.
The couple lived at 306 South Third avenue East at the time
of Mrs. Moore's death.
Survivors are her husband, one son, Francis R. Moore, and
two daughters, Mrs. Bernard Stech and Miss Darlene Moore,
and three grandchildren, all of Newton. She was preceded in
