Margaret (McWhirter) Gettys
Born: January 18761 in Glascow, Scotland Former Resident DiesColfax, Iowa. -- Special. -- Mrs. Margaret McWhirter Gettys, former resident of Jasper county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Gripp at Bayard, Ia., at 2:30 Saturday morning after an illness of the past several months. She was about 53 years of age. Mrs. Gettys was born in Glasgow, Scotland and came to the United States with her parents when she was about nine years of age. They located in the Metz neighborhood, south west of Newton, where her child hood was spent. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John McWhirter of Colfax, by three daughters, Mrs. Beatrice Gripp of Bayard, Margaret Gettys of Des Moines, and Marie Gettys of Madrid, four sisters, Mrs. William Mulleneaux and Mrs. Sam Jones of Colfax, Mrs. Otto Carroll of Newton and Mrs. William Shull of Ames; three brothers, John McWhiter of Northfield, Minn., Andrew McWhirter of Jackson, Minn., and Robert McWhiter of near Newton. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at St. Charles, Ia. ~ Jasper County Record,
