Grover Leeper
Born: August 2, 1885 News StoryGrover, the nine year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. W. Leeper, accidentally hung himself at their home at Agee, Hold county, Neb., Wednesday, April 3. The circumstances were tragic and sorrowful. The lad had been sent to an upper room on an errand by his mother. There was a bird cage in that room in which Grover was hiding eggs for Easter. In reaching up to put an egg in the cage he slipped and caught his neck in the loop of a bridle rein hanging from a bean, and when found by his younger sister ten or fifteen minutes later, life was extinct. His mother brought the remains east to the old home for burial, the funeral services being held Saturday morning at the residence of the boy's grandfather, John Leeper, in Sherman township, conducted by Rev. Brooks. The burial was in Sugar Grove cemetery. ~ The Newton Record, April 12, 1895. __________Mrs. Joe Leeper returned to Nebraska, leaving her children in care of their grandpa, John Leeper. ~ The Newton Record, April 26, 1895. |
