Obituary of Richard Jones

Richard L. “Rick” Jones, the son of Hazel Angeline Sager and Kermit Wickett, was born December 27, 1952 in Newton, Iowa. Rick was united in marriage with Shellie Louise Cupp on April 11, 1982 in Newton, Iowa.

Rick had worked for Jimmy Dean in Osceola, Iowa and for Helena Chemical in Des Moines. For the past 20 years he has worked in the Newton area in yard care and snow removal. When not working, Rick enjoyed fishing. Rick loved his family and his Jasper County Church of Christ family and did whatever he could to show his love and support for them.

Rick died on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He was 61 years old. Rick was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shellie, on January 19, 2013; his daughter, Melissa Renee Boucher; his brother, Terry Wickett; his sister-in-law, Mary Kay Jones; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charlie and Evelyn Cupp; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gennie and Richard Feehan.

Those left to honor Rick’s memory include his granddaughter, Shielow Tucker; his sisters, Pam Smith of Newton, IA and Vicki (Rick) Butler of Exline, IA; his brothers, Doug Jones of Mitchellville, IA and Tom (Tammy) Wickett of Colfax, IA; his brother-in-law, Charles (Sheryl) Cupp of Des Moines, IA and his sister-in-law, Lorrie Cupp of Newton, IA and his many nieces and nephews.

A time of visitation with the family will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 20th at the Jasper County Church of Christ located at 1100 N. 3rd Avenue East in Newton. Memorials may be designated in Rick’s name to the Jasper County Church of Christ.

Obituary of Shellie Cupp-Jones

Shellie Louise Cupp-Jones, the daughter of Charlie and Evelyn Josephine (McGee) Cupp, was born October 14, 1954 in Newton, Iowa. She graduated from the Newton Senior High School. Shellie was united in marriage with Rick Jones on April 11, 1982, in Newton, Iowa.

Shellie worked as a bartender and waitress at various restaurants. She was a member of various local organizations and attended the Newton Church of Christ.

Shellie died on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at her home in Newton. She was 58 years old. Shellie was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Melissa Renee; and her sister and brother-in-law, Gennie (Richard) Feehan.

Those left to honor Shellie's memory include her husband, Rick Jones of Newton; her grandchildren; her brother, Charles (Sheryl) Cupp of Des Moines, IA; her sister, Lorrie Cupp of Newton, IA; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Doug Jones of Mitchellville, IA, Pamela Smith of Newton, IA, Tom (Tammy) Wickett of Colfax, IA, Vicki (Rick) Butler of Exline, IA and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 26th at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be designated in Shellie's name.

KEOKUK — Melissa Renee Boucher, 31, of Keokuk, formerly of Newton, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, in Keokuk.

A funeral service will be Saturday [March 18, 2006] at 11 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. David Rex, pastor of Metz Church in rural Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Metz Cemetery.

Friends may call Saturday after 10 a.m. at the funeral home, where the family will be available from 10 to 11 a.m. Memorials may be designated to Shellie and Rick Jones and may be left at the funeral home. ~ Newton Daily News, March 20, 2006.


KEOKUK — Melissa Rene Boucher, 31, of Keokuk, formerly of Newton, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, in Keokuk.

The daughter of Lee M. and Nora F. Casteel Boucher, she was born Sept. 27, 1974, in Jefferson, Mo. In 1975, Richard L. and Shellie Cupp Jones became her parents. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1995 and worked for Progress Industries. She also worked for Giovonni's Pizza, P.J.'s Deli and Farm and Home. She enjoyed collecting dolls, camping, fishing, crafts, dancing and karoke. She loved to laugh and help others, and she enjoyed little children and giving hugs.

Survivors include her mother, Nora F. Hefley of Newton; her parents, Rick and Shellie Cupp Jones of Newton; her grandfather, Kermit Wickett of Colfax; four sisters, Robin Darrow of Georgia, and Jennifer Owens, Cassidy Hubbard and Sarah Jo Hubbard, all of Newton; two brothers, Bobby Jenkins of Newton and Michael Jenkins of California; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lee Boucher; a brother, Steven Jenkins; grandparents, Cora and Al Fox, Charlie and Jody Cupp and Hazel "Peggy" Wickett; and three uncles and two aunts.
