Born: April 7, 1934 in Cedarvale, Chautauqua, Kansas Roland L. JacobsRoland L. Jacobs, 63, of 716 E 8th St. S., died of cancer, Sunday, Jan. 18, at his home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Frederick Kramer, chaplain at Skiff Medical Center, officiating. Burial will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton. Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Tuesday. Visitation with the family will be held Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials in Mr. Jacob's name will be accepted. The son of Joseph Donald and Grace Mae Bevard Jacobs, he was born April 7, 1934, in Cedarvale, Kan. He married Ruby Virginia Gibson, May 30, 1953, in Newton. A resident of Newton since 1943, he previously was a resident of Oskaloosa for nine years. Mr. Jacobs was a retired employee of the Maytag Company in the automatic assembly department. He was a member of the UAW Local 997 retiree union. Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Deb of Newton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Tom McConeghey of Waterloo and Lorrie and Rudy Harter of Newton; seven grandchildren; a step-grandchild; a great-grandchild; a step-great-grandchild; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Bob Moredock of Newton, Naomi and Walt Gorman of Colfax and Wanda and Paul Lane of altoona; and a brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Margaret Jacobs of Newton. Ruby Virginia Jacobs
Born: March 7, 1935 in Colfax, Jasper Co., Iowa Ruby (Gibson) JacobsRuby Virginia (Gibson) Jacobs, 84, of Newton died on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at her son’s home in Newton. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 20, 2019, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m., Monday, until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorials to Ruby’s family may be left at the funeral home. Ruby, the daughter of Orie and Hazel (Henney) Gibson, was born on March 7, 1935 in Colfax, Iowa. She was a lifelong resident of Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1953. On May 30, 1953, Ruby was united in marriage with Roland Jacobs in Newton. For 12 years, Ruby worked at Jacobs Electric as a bookkeeper, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Metz Community Church. Ruby loved playing cards, crocheting, knitting, and genealogy. She also enjoyed being active in her yard whether it be mowing, raking, or shoveling. Ruby loved being with her family and enjoyed decorating her home with pictures of family and friends. Ruby is survived by her children, Randall J (Deb) Jacobs of Newton, Jennifer (Tom) McConeghey of Waterloo, and Lorraine K Harter of Newton; grandchildren, Kristen (Todd) Breuer, Ryan (Jackie) Wilson, John McConeghey, Kristopher Jacobs, Brett (Annie) Jacobs, Scott Harter, Eric Harter, and Amy Rhodes; her great-grandchildren, Kayla Guthrie, Noah Guthrie, Trayce Buday, Traci Rhodes, and Tyler Rhodes; and her brother, Kenneth (Bev) Gibson of Tennessee. Rudy was preceded in death by his father, Ralph. Rudy graduated from Mingo Community Schools in 1972. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1972-1976. He was a production worker for John Deere in Ankeny. He had been a production worker for the Maytag Company prior to working for John Deere. Tony Ray Jacobs
Born: November 16, 1968 in Newton, Jasper Co., Iowa Rites Conducted for Jacobs ChildGraveside rites for Tony Ray Jacobs, infant son of Roland and Ruby Gibson Jacobs of Rt. 2, Newton, were held today at Sugar Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Harold Den Hartog, minister of the Metz Community Church, conducted the services. Survivors are his parents; two sisters, Jennifer and Lorraine, at home; a brother, Randall, at home; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Jacobs of Newton and Mrs. Hazel Gibson of Newton.
