Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the services, 1 p.m. till 2 p.m. on Wednesday, at Pence Reese Funeral Home. Nancy Hammons, 49, the daughter of William and Thelma Odelene (Greene) Stearns, was born October 23, 1958 in Sanford, Florida. A longtime resident of the Des Moines and Newton, Iowa areas, Nancy was a graduate of the East High School in Des Moines, Class of 1976. She had devoted her life to her children and family. Nancy passed away at her home on Saturday, August 9, 2008 in New Hampton, Iowa. Her father and mother preceded her in death. Those left to honor Nancys memory include her daughters: Monica Hammons of Newton and Melissa Stearns of Oelwein, Iowa; her sons: Richard Hammons of Newton, Cameron Randell and Connor Randell, both of Fredericksburg, Iowa; her seven grandchildren; a brother Ronald Stearns of Jamestown, Rhode Island; a sister Debbie Besson of Mountain View, California; and her many good neighbors and friends. Randall Robert "Hawk" Hammons
Born: December 11, 1960 in Newton, Jasper Co., Iowa Funeral services for Randy, will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2014, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home, and burial will be at the Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton. In lieu of flowers memorials have been designated in Randy’s Name. Randall Robert “Hawk” Hammons, 53, the son of Robert and Dixie (Copeland) Hammons, was born December 11, 1960, in Newton. He attended the Newton Senior High. In 1980, Randy was united in marriage with Nancy Stearns in Newton. He devoted his life to his family, and enjoyed working on cars, outdoor activities, such as fishing, hunting and NASCAR. He was employed by Ed’s Edibles Vending, 1982-86 and by the Maytag Company, 1986-2007. Randy died Friday, August 29, 2014, at the Comfort House in Pella, under the care of Hospice. He was preceded in death by his mother Dixie, his grandparents; and his wife Nancy. Randy will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Dixie (Copeland) Hammons
Born: December 8, 1935 in Fair Play, Polk Co., Missouri Dixie D. Hammons,the daughter of Buel and Jessie Harville Copeland, was born December 8, 1935 in Fair Play, MO. Dixie graduated from Fairplay High School with the class of 1953. She moved to Newton in 1954. Dixie devoted her life to her family. She always enjoyed cooking for the family, desiring to care for them however she could. Dixie enjoyed the outdoors, driving about town and her dogs. Dixie died on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center. She was 73 years old. Dixie was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Bobby L. Copeland in 1992. Those left to honor Dixie's memory include her sons, Randall R. Hammons of Newton, IA, Doug Watkins of Utah; her daughters, Sharon R. Hammons of Newton, IA, Cynthia L. Balmer Hammons of Sully, IA; her four grandchildren; her four great grandchildren; her sister, Luella Collins of Marshfield, MO; and her many friends.
