Lilly A. Halterman, 69, of Newton died of a heart ailment
Wednesday at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Wallace-Pence
Funeral Home in Newton, with burial at Sugar Grove
Cemetery.
A longtime Newton resident, she retired from Maytag Co. and
was a member of the Moose Lodge and United Auto Workers
Retirees Union.
Among survivors are two sons, Leonard of Prairie City and
Wilbur of Austin, Texas; four daughters, Donna Morton,
Marilyn Halterman and Wilma LaFond, all of Newton, and
Barbara Lemke of Grinnell; a brother, Martin Garr of Promise
City; a sister, Alta Mitchell of Grinnell; 12 grandchildren;
10 great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after noon today at the funeral home, where
the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. ~ Des Moines

Marilyn Norene Halterman March 19, 1954 - September 20, 2009 Newton, Iowa
Visitation: The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the funeral home.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at the funeral home.
Interment: Immediately following the funeral service on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at the Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton.
Those left to honor Marilyn's memory are her life's partner, Marvin Housley of Newton; two sons, Mark (Melinda) Housley of Newton and Terry Housley of Newton; and two daughters, Teresa Cooper of Newton and Heather (Cory) Butler of Reasnor; her nine grandchildren, Braidon Cottrell, Alicia Cooper, Charles Shepard, Melissa Housley, Marvin Housley II, Ridge Butler, Mark Butler, Kaylynn Housley and Sawyer Housley; her two brothers, Wilbur "Lucky" Halterman of Marshalltown, Iowa and Leonard Halterman of Newton; and her three sisters, Barb (Larry) Lemke of Grinnell, Iowa, Donna Morton of Newton and Wilma "Willie" Lafond of Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin Halterman and Lilly Garr, and maternal and paternal grandparents.
Marilyn was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 923 and of the VFW Post 1655 Women's Auxiliary.
Marilyn loved to be with her grandchildren, she also enjoyed watching Marvin drive his car in Figure 8 races, playing BINGO, and when she was able to go camping and fishing.
