A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County and may be left at the funeral home. The daughter of Frederick A. and Elizabeth F. (Lind) Engle, she was born Aug. 19, 1921, in Metz. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1938. She worked in sales, selling Cinderella and Amway products and hosting Stanley parties. She married Cliff Hurley in 1977 in Freeport, Bahamas, and was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Loire Wing of Newton and Ted D. and Glenda Wing of Monroe; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lea and Fred Chabot and Andrea and John Birkenholtz, all of Newton; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and longtime friend and companion, Vern Mitchell.
