Mrs. Elizabeth Callison Dies
Mrs. Elizabeth Callison, 70 Years Old, Dies at Home of Daughter Near Monroe; Pioneer Resident
Mrs. Elizabeth Callison, 70 years old died Thursday morning, at 3:30 o'clock as the result of a sudden attack of apoplexy at the home of her daughter Mrs. W. M. Walker, north of Monroe. Funeral services are to be held Sunday morning at 11 o'clock at the Metz church.
Elizabeth Carrier was born October 17, 1848, at London, KY., where she spent her childhood. When a young woman, she moved with her parents to Jasper county located near Metz and has been a resident of this county since that time.
She was married in December, 1881 [sic-Jan 18, 1872], to Claibourne Callison, at the home near Metz. They spent all of their married life there and were the parents of four children, H. J., of Metz, Otto and Roy, of this city, and Mrs. Kathryn Walker of Monroe all of whom survive. Mr. Callison died about fifteen years ago, and his wife remained upon the farm until several years ago, since when she has made her home with her daughter, near Monroe. Three sisters, Mrs. David Kuhn, and Mrs. Susie Wyrick, of this city, and Mrs. Mary Burnett, of Whitewater, Kan. Sisters of the deceased also survive. One brother, Garrett Carrier, and a sister, Mrs. John Brock, of this vicinity are also dead.
She was a faithful member of the Baptist church. ~ The Newton Daily News, September 7, 1918, page 3.

Funeral Services of Elizabeth Callison
Funeral is Held at Metz Baptist Church at 11 O'clock Yesterday Morning; Burial at Metz
The funeral services for the late Mrs. Elizabeth Callison, who died Thursday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. M. Walker, near Monroe, were held yesterday morning at the Metz church, at 11 o'clock. The Reverend Morgan Jones, of Colfax minister at the Baptist church at Colfax and Metz, was in charge of the services.
The pall bearers were John Hitchler, Fred, James and Archie Engle, Elmer Emmack and Evan Hardenbrook. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Anderson, of this city. They sang three selections - "It is Well With My Soul." "Abide With Me" and "The Better Land." Miss Georgia Hardenbrook accompanied them on the piano.
Burial was made at the Metz cemetery.
Included in the relatives who attended the services from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Jess Burnett, Mrs. Lizzie Burnett, Fred Burnett, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Schlusher and Mrs. George Terpstra, of Colfax, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Benjamin, of Prairie City and Mrs. James Beach and daughter of Baxter. ~ The Newton Daily News, September 9, 1918.

Claybourn Callison
Claybourn Callison died at his home in Metz last evening about seven-thirty, aged sixty-two years. Deceased was an old soldier, having been a member of Co. K, 28th Iowa Vol. He leaves three sons and a daughter. The funeral will occur Saturday afternoon at one o'clock at the Metz school house. ~ Newton Daily Herald. March 6, 1903.
