Born: December 28, 1901 in East St. Louis, St. Clair Co., Illinois Obituary of Hertha M. BrockHertha M. Hencke Brock, 89, of 710 S. 2nd Ave. W., a longtime resident of both Colfax and Newton, died Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Newton Care Center. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Reese Chapel. The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the Newton United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Cremation took place immediately. Burial will be held later at Belleville, Ill. There will be no visitation. A memorial in her name to Hospice of Jasper County has been established. She is survived by three nephews and a niece. Mrs. Brock was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George Vernon Brock in 1970, two sisters and a brother. The daughter of Bohlke and Marguerite Schoppe Henchken, she was born Dec. 28, 901 in East St. Louis, Ill. She married to George Vernon Brock April 4, 1927 in Chicago, Ill. Born: August 28, 1898 near Monroe, Jasper Co., Iowa G. V. Brock Dies Today, Services SetG. Vernon Brock, 71, 711 S. 3rd Ave. W. resident of Newton since 1962, died Thursday morning at Skiff Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Johnson Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Harold Harryman, associate minister of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Friday. Surviving are his widow, Hertha; a sister, Mrs. Bonnie Coy of Cedar Rapids, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Brock was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newton, the Masonic Lodge of Prairie City and the American Legion Post at Prairie City. He was employed for a number of years in Chicago, Ill., and Philadelphia, Pa., as a civil engineer. The son of George Adam and Valura Mae Marshall Brock, he was born Aug. 28, 1898, near Monroe and attended Prairie City high school. He received a degree in civil engineering from Iowa State University at Ames. He was an army veteran of World War I. He was married to Hertha Hencken April 4, 1927, at Chicago., Ill.
