Obituary: Ray "Shorty" Boyer

Ray "Shorty" Boyer, 67, of 1301 S 10th Ave E., Newton, died Thursday evening, June 29 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines of respiratory failure.

Services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, at Foursquare Church in Newton with the Rev. James Black, Pastor of Foursquare Church officiating. Graveside services followed at Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton. Visitation was held on Sunday after 3 p.m. with family present from 3 to 5 p.m. at Wallace-Pence funeral Home in Newton. Memorials may be made in Ray's name.

The son of Arthur and Blanche Martin Boyer, he was born March 9, 1933 in Kenosha, Wis. He was a high school graduate and manager for Colfax Tractor Parts. He married Arlene Dammeier on December 16, 1975 in Newton. He was a longtime resident of Newton, living there since 1971. Prior to living in Newton, he was Castle Air Force Base in Atwater, Calif. He was a member of Newton Foursquare Church, the Newton V. F. W. Post #1655, and served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Era with the U. S. Air Force.

Ray is survived by his wife, his five daughters; Debbie Rivet of Atwater, Calif., Cindy Corbett of Marengo, Traci Martin of Newton, Wendy Boyer of Newton, and Mendy Boyer of Waterloo; his three sons: Dean Wayne Boyer of Colfax, Craig Adams of Grinnell, and Brad Adams of Newton; his ten grandchildren and a great-grandson; his two brothers: Paul Boyer of Dayton, Ohio and Glenn Boyer of Hesperia, Calif.; his six sisters: Barb Bielefeldt of Georgia, Carol Boyer of Indianapolis, Ind., Nancy Frank of Ridgecrest, Calif., Marian Deegan of Watertown, Wis., Dorothy Banker of Mauston, Wis., and Donna Hagen of Minneapolis, Minn.; and his many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, two great-grandsons, and two brothers. ~ The Newton Daily News, June 29, 2000.

Newton: Ray Bower, 67, of Newton died of a respiratory ailment Friday at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Four square Church in Newton, of which he was a member. Burial will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery near there.

Mr. Boyer was born in Kenosha, Wis., and had lived in California before moving to Newton in 1971. He was a retired parts manager with the Colfax John Deer dealership and an Air Force veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are his wife, Arlene; three sons, Dean of Colfax, Craig Adams of Grinnell and Brad Adams of Newton; five daughters, Debbie Rivet of Atwater, Calif., Cindy Cobett of Marengo, Traci Martin and Wendy Boyer, both of Newton, and Mendy Boyer of Waterloo; six sisters, Barb Bielefeldt of Georgia, Carol Boyer of Indianapolis, Nancy Frank of Ridgecrest, Calif. Marian Deegan of Whitewater, Wis., Donna Hagen of Minneapolis, and Dorothy Banker of Mauston, Wis.; two brothers, Paul of Dayton, Ohio, and Glen of Hesperia, Calif; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.|

Accident claims one life, injures another near Ira

A rural Mingo man was killed in a head-on collision just west of Ira Thursday afternoon.

A 1985 Ford LTD driven by Daryl R. Boyer, 42, of rural Mingo struck a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Ryan J. Myers, 19, of rural Ira. The accident, which occurred on West 108th Street North approximately 2.5 miles west of Ira. .... ~ The Newton Daily News, December 10, 1999.

MINGO - Daryl Ray Boyer, 42, of Mingo, died of injuries sustained in an automobile accident west of Ira, Thursday, Dec. 9, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Foursquare Church in Newton with the Rev. James Black, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton.

Friends may call after noon today at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton where family will be present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials in Mr. Boyer's name will be accepted.

The son of Ray and Yvonne Flowers Boyer, he was born April 26, 1957, in Aylesbury, Buckingham, England. He was a 1975 graduate of East Union High School in Manteca, Calif. and attended two years of college in Des Moines.

Mr. Boyer moved to the Baxter and Mingo areas in 1975. He was employed as a steel worker in Des Moines.

Survivors include his father and step-mother, Ray and Arlene Boyer of Newton; his mother and step-father, Yvonne and Phillip Vaughn of Merced, Calif.; four brothers, Dean Wayne Boyer of Colfax, Craig Adams of Grinnell, Brad Adams of Newton and Philip Vaughn of Merced, Calif.; five sisters, Debbie Rivit of Atwater, Calif., Cindy Corbett of Marengo, Mendy Boyer of Waterloo and Traci Martin and Wendy Boyer, both of Newton; and a special friend, Debbie Johnston of Scotland.

Milwaukee, Wis. - Dean Wayne Boyer was born in Mildenhall, England, on Feb. 21, 1963, and passed away on Oct. 27, 2008, from heart related problems in Milwaukee, Wis.

Dean loved the outdoors and enjoyed traveling around the county. He is survived by the love of his life, Linda of California; his mother and stepfather, Yvonne and Philip Vaughn of Merced, Calif.; his sister, Debbie Boyer-Rivet of Atwater, Calif.; his brother, Philip (Shannon) Vaughn of Merced; his step-mother, Arlene Boyer of Newton; and his sisters, Cindy (Ron) Corbett, Traci (Jerry) Byrum, Wendy (Cameron) McGuire, Mendy (Tim) Ward, all of Iowa; his brothers, Craig (Betty) Adams and Brad (Gina) Adams, all of Iowa; and many nieces and nephews of California and Iowa.

Dean was preceded in death by his beloved brother Daryl and his father Ray.

A private burial will be at a later date. Dean will be buried near his brother and his father.
