Benedict of Granger DiesHad Been in Hospital Since 1953 - Funeral Services Held at Granger Assumption Clarence Albert Benedict, a resident of Granger since 1932, died last Thursday, following an illness of several years. He had moved to the Granger community in 1932, employed as a carpenter, until his health failed him some yars ago. Mr. Benedict, son of Silas and Mary Benedict, was born Oct. 30, 1881, in New Sharon, receiving his education in the New Sharon schools. As a young man he worked with his father, learning the carpenter trade and followed that vocation until failing health necessitated his retirement seven years ago. He was married to Josephine Pink of Newton, Iowa, May 24, 1919, at Des Moines where they lived until March 1932, when they moved to the farm near Granger which has been their home ever since. On May 5, 1953, he entered the Des Moines hospital where he was a patient until his death. He came home occassionally to spend a Sunday, ever hopeful that soon he would be able to again come home to stay, but on Oct. 6, he lost the fight. He is survived by his wife, 2 sisters, Minnie Hollingsworth of Des Moines, and Laura Gregory of Dallas, Texas, and friends who knew him as Uncle Bennie. Services were held at Granger Assumption Saturday and interment was at Sugar Grove cemetery near Newton, the family home of Mrs. Benedict. ~ The Madrid Register-News, Madrid, Boone Co., Iowa, Thursday, October 13, 1955, page 1. 1.
