J.W. Baty Dies; Services Monday
Jeptha William Baty; 75 of route 2, Newton, died at 6:30
p.m. Thursday at Skiff Memorial hospital. Funeral services
will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Johnson funeral
home.
The Rev. Philip C. Biblehimer, pastor of the First
Lutheran church, will conduct the services. Burial will be
in Sugar Grove cemetery.
Mr. Baty is survived by his wife, Anna; and a number of
nieces and nephews. The son of Samuel and Margaret Baty, he
was born in Marion county near Knoxville. Educated in Marion
county schools, he was married to Anna Gearhart December 25,
1909 in Newton.
A retired farmer, he was born in Marion county, and moved
with his parents to Jasper county near Newton in 1896. He
resided in Jasper county since then. ~ Newton Daily News,

Anna Baty Dies at Hospital Sunday;
Rites Wednesday
Anna M. Baty, 72, of Rt. 2, Newton, died at 10:50 a.m.
Sunday at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services for Mrs. Baty, a lifelong resident of
Jasper County, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the
Johnson Funeral Home.
The Rev. Philip C. Biblehimer, minister of the First
Lutheran Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be
in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Baty is survived by three nephews, Lewis Gerhart and
Charles Gerhart, both of Des Moines, and Clifford Gerhart of
Mingo; and eight nieces, Mrs. Cornie (Mary) Kleinendorst of
Newton, Mrs. Earl (Anna) Parcell of Chicago; Mrs. Loren
(Betty) Craft of Des Moines, Mrs. Stella Mason of Chicago,
Ill., Mrs. Ruby Kirkwood of Des Moines, Miss Frances Gerhart
of Monroe, Mrs. Donald (Phyllis) Townsend of Baxter and Mrs.
Harry (Gladys) Reynolds of Long View, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1959 and by
four brothers.
Mrs. Baty was a member of the First Lutheran Church and
the Royal Neighbors at Mitchellville.
The daughter of Louis and Joanna Hildebrand Gerhart, she
was born Oct. 11, 1889 in Jasper County.
Educated in Jasper County Schools, she was married
to Jeptha (Jap) Baty, Dec. 25, 1909. ~ The Newton Daily
