History
"Sacred Heart [Calvary of St. John's Parish, Catholic] Cemetery was started in 1878. It is located on South 12th Avenue West & West 28th Street South, Newton, Iowa. Approximately 2 acrea was deeded in 1876 for use as a cemetery. It is fenced with a gate, on paving and well maintained. There are 400 plus burials in Sacred Heart. The stones are in fair to good condition.
"A large field boulder with a bronze plaque marks the grave of Monsignor Thomas J. McCann. The plaque provides the life story of Monsignor McCann."
