Cordova News
Scores of Cordovans are grieved to learn of the death of Mrs.
Charles E. Nichols at Iowa City, Ia., on September 23. Death
occurred at Mercy hospital in that city and was due to pneumonia.
Mrs. Nichols had suffered for years from respiratory afflictions
and the trip of the Nichols to the states this summer was made
partly with a thought to obtaining relief for her ailment through
a change of climate and surroundings. The Nichols were residents
of Cordova for nearly 28 years. Mr. Nichols was one of the oldest
railroad employees.
She was married to Charles E. Nichols in 1904. They lived in the
states of Wyoming and Nevada before moving to Alaska in 1911. She
was 68 years of age at the time of her death. In addition to her
husband, she is survived by one brother, Frank Lewis of Iowa
City, a niece, Lillian Livezey of Wellman, Ia., and two nephews,
Perry and George Livesey, of Iowa City.
[note: the 1930 U.S. census, Cordova, Alaska territory
(enumeration date Dec. 1929), gives her first name as May, age
57; born in Illinois of a Canadian father & Iowa born mother;
