--The Fred Wittman sale Monday totaled $2,500. The farm will be
tenanted this year by John McKee.
--At the annual meeting of the Calhoun Co-operative creamery's
stockholders, William Thompson was elected to succeed himself for
a term of three years, and Ole Orness to succeed Andrew Laughlin.
Other members of the board are Harry Lenz, Joe Weipert and O.E.
Buntrock. Milton Wilde and Willard Marti were hired as
buttermakers, the latter to do the secretarial work. The reports
showed a total of $177,367.30 of business transacted during the
past year. A total of 533,798 pounds of butter were made. The
creamery was organized in 1896 and re-built in 1925. It is
located at Church.
--At a congregational meeting of the Federated church, Alfred
Magnusson and Dr. A.R. Fredrickson were re-elected trustees for
three years, and Albert Kehr as treasurer.
--Relatives at Lansing received word of the death of Miss Louise
Beckmeier at Los Angeles. Miss Beckmeier was a daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs. August Beckmeier, and was born at Lansing May
4, 1863. She moved to California in 1918 (or 1913), where she
held the position of department manager in one of the big stores.
She was a charter member of the local EWA study club. Surviving
are a sister, Mrs. Frank Rice of Los Angeles, two brothers, Tade
of Alma, Wis., and Louis of Freeport, Ill. Burial was in Los
Angeles.
--Mrs. Otto Koch went to La Crosse Tuesday to be present at the
ceremonies when her daughter Geraldine received her white uniform
from one of the nurses training schools of the city. Miss Lucille
Weipert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Weipert, also is in the
same class.
--In the Vocational Homemaking department of the city schools
Magdalene Thompson of the freshman class and Leonette Mullarkey
of the senior class received honors for the work they completed
in sewing, which is special work done outside of school. Both
will represent the Lansing school at the Vocational Homemaking
conference at Iowa State college during the summer. The projects
were judged by Mmes. T.M. Rickansrud, A.R. Fredrickson, Fred
Schafer, George Aschom and Len Barthell. Miss Alice Lynum is
teacher of this branch of work.
