For the first time in the history of Allamakee county a woman is seeking the office of member of the board of supervisors. She is Mrs. Albert Jacobson of Paint Creek township, who is out for nomination on the republican ticket for the term commencing Jan. 1, 1935. Mrs. Jacobson was a esident of Kansas City before her marriage a year ago to Albert Jacobson. She served two years in the United States field corps as an auditor during the World war. She will be opposed by five men in the June primary.

The marriage of Miss Harriet Cahallan and Charles Vaughn, occurred Wednesday morning, April 18, at St. Pius' church, Cherry Mound. The nuptial mass was celebrated by the Rev. H. Krieger. Attendants were Walter Hogan of McGregor and Miss Cahallan. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Cahallan of Waukon Junction, and the bridegroom a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Vaughn of McGregor.

At the regular meeting of the city council Monday evening, beer permits were renewed to Walter Martin, Joseph White, S. and D. Cafe, Elite Care, P.J. Mahoney, Charles Davis, G.A. Zanzow and D.F. Duggan.

Waukon, Iowa column

The funeral of Mrs. Walter Gast, who died at her home at Rossville Sunday night from an incurable disease, was held Tuesday. She wa born in Lorenze* county, Iowa, April 11, 1889. On March 12, 1912, she was wedded to Walter Gast, who survives with their two children, Mrs. Creighton Palmer and Phyllis at home; her parents, residing at Primgar, Iowa, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held in the afternoon at Presbyterian church at Rossville, conducted by the Rev. R.L. Van Nice. Burial was in the Big Foot cemetery.

Graduations.
The fifth annual commencement of the Harpers Ferry high school was held Friday evening, when nine young people were presented with diplomas by Supt. H.B. Hetzler. The valedictorian was Clement Kelly, and salutatorian Joseph Cavanaugh. The class roll consisted of Norma Adam, Cletus Valley, Joseph Cavanaugh, Monica Robinson, Zita Conway, Marcus Robinson, Clemet Kelly, Katherine Quillin & John Kernan.

The closing exercises of St. Patrick's school will take place on Sunday, June 3, when eighth grade diplomas will be presented to the following students: Hazel Hall, Alice Howes, Bernice Folsom, Mary E. Collins, Mary E. Luther, Helen Brannan, Rita Piggott, Mary L. Deviney, Ella Mae Long, Marguerite Dougherty, Helen McCormick, Mary La Von Donahue, Vernon Gavin, John McCullough, William Dougherty, William Waldron, William Kessel, Thomas Kaveny, James May and Vernon Deviney.

The marriage of Miss Veronica Schulte and Vincent Bakewell will take place Wednesday, May 29, at the Dorchester Catholic church. Rev. B.J. Denvir will officiate and the attendants will be Miss Mary Schulte and Lawrence Bakewell. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Schulte and the bridegroom a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Bakewell. The bride was educated at St. Peters high school at Caledonia and for the past five years has been organist of St. Mary's church at Dorchester. Mr. Bakewell graduated from the Immaculate Conception high school at Lansing. They will establish their new home on a farm near New Albin.

Mrs. Elmyra Reynolds, believed to be the oldest resident of Allamakee county, celebrated her one-hundredth birthday anniversary Friday. The Baptist congregation held a public reception in the church in the afternoon at which time a hundred or more friends called to pay their respects to the pioneer who has passed over 50 years of her life in Waukon. Despite her advanced age, she possesses remarkable health and takes an active part in her own business affairs. One of her remarkds Friday was: "The first 100 years are the hardest." She was born at Pewaukee, Wis., May 25, 1834

Waukon, Ia - Mr. and Mrs. M.W. Eaton celebrated their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary Monday by entertaining their children, Arthur of Minneapolis, Guy W., Mesdames Nelle Slitor, Lucile Keper, P.D. Cota, Harm Ludeman of Waukon, and their respective families. Mr. Eaton's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Azael Eaton, were natives of Nova Scotia and he was born in a covered wagon enroute to this section over 80 years ago. In spite of his advanced age he is one of the leading stock buyers of Allamakee county, drives his own car from his home to the stockyards, and attends to his business affairs regularly. Mrs. Eaton was born in Allamakee county, her parents being Mr. and Mrs. John Minert, early residents of the county.
