April 29, 1876
Dr. C.R. Bissell left on Friday's eastwardly bound train with the
remains of his deceased wife, for burial at her early home in
Fairfield, Iowa. We are informed that he expected to return in
about six weeks and resume his practice in this city.

Mr. T.G. Northrop, a citizen of Dixon Pulaski Co., and who is
well known in Rolla dropped us a line the other day enclosing a
subscription stating that he would leave on Wednesday, overland
for Bear Grove, Guthrie Co., Iowa where he intends to make his
future home. In the concluding part of his letter he says:
"I am sorry I have not got time to visit my friends in and
around Rolla once more, but time will not permit, so I bid them a
long farewell and wish them all well".

THE GARRISON CEMETERY
Our citizens have evinced a remarkable dereliction in their
neglect of the grave-yards in the neighborhood of Steilacoom. The
one near the Hospital for the Insane, commonly known as the
Garrison Cemetery, is
enclosed by a picket-fence, but it is a broken-down, dilapidated,
forbidden structure, through which cattle can enter at various
places. Wild trees and brush hide the graves and monuments in the
yard, and dry branches
and tree-tops are scattered over the grounds, rendering it almost
impossible to wander about from one side of the sacred place to
the other.
In memory of Chas. M. McDaniel, Born in Iowa, 1834, And died at
the Hands of Violence, Jan. 22, 1870, Aged 36 years.
