Elliot E. Graham Dies at Hospital in Brooklyn

This community was thrown into profound sorrow last Friday when the death of Elliott E. Graham in a base hospital at Brooklyn, New York, was announced. The young man enlisted in the U.S. navy July 3rd and was assigned to the Great lakes, later being transferred to the League Navy Yard, and at the time of his death was preparing for service on the battleship, Louisville. He became afflicted with pneumonia September 13th and was taken to the hospital where he passed away Sept. 20th.

Elliot Graham, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Graham, of Hazel Green, was born at Beaver Dam, Wisconsin Jan. 8th 1897. He came with his parents to New Hartford, Iowa, and later to Hazel Green, where his father has had charge of the creamery for a number of years. He is survived by his parents, one brother, Angus and four sisters, Bessie, Alexine, Maxine and Loretta.

He was well know in Ryan where he was employed for some time and was a general favorite among all his associates. He had a cheerful disposition, winning ways and was an upright and honorable young man in every sense of the word. He has given up his life in order that we may have a safe place to live in and is entitled to every honor shown those who die on the field of battle. Mr. and Mrs. Graham and family are extended the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their loss.

The remains were brought to the home today and the funeral will be held Friday morning at 10 o’clock at the Methodist church in Manchester. As a mark of respect the business houses of Ryan and Manchester will be closed during the funeral and the town council of both places and other civil organizations will attend in a body. The remains will be taken to No. Hartford, Iowa for interment.
