Clarion Lodges Elect Officers

Eastern Star - Friday evening, December 10th, the order of Eastern Stars held their regular meeting. Two candidates, Mrs. L.N. Archerd and Gene Boyington, received the degrees. After this, officers for the new year were elected. The result of the election was as follows:

Upper Boone News
-John Ross shelled corn Saturday.

-Opal Schoolcraft is very sick with pneumonia.

-Phill Kiley and family spent Sunday at the John Ross home.

-Mr. and Mrs. V.A. Blomgren of Kanawba were Renwick callers Sunday.

-Lawrence Perkins left Monday for a week's visit with relatives at Primghar.

-Mr. and Mrs. Fred Reitema and family left Thursday for Minnesota where they will visit relatives and friends.

Kanawha Items - from the Record
-The marriage of Gundeval Johnson and Nellie Hanson took place a week ago. They are a popular Wright county couple and will make their home neaer Kanawha.

-J.E. Olson has sold his residence on West Second street to Geo. C. Cook, possession to be given in early spring. The place is now occupied by Benton Olson, and as he owns some residence lots on Main street we presume the deal will mean the building of another new house next years.

-Mrs. Dr. Gordon who was called away by the death of a sister, has returned home.

-Little Bernice Bailey, who has been so very sick for so long, is at this writing on the way toward recovery.

-Fletcher Howell is on the sick list. Along with other ailments he has been suffering with a rising in the head, which has proved very painful.

-It is reported that by a fall from a wagon, Jerdon Brinkman met with a somewhat serious accident. Two ribs were said to be broken outright, and another one fractured.

-A car driven by Ross Farmer east of town last Saturday, skidded and turned over, but slight damage resulted.


IOWA NEWS BRIEFS

Bayard, 19 year old son of Dr. Z. Fuller of Sac City, was badly injured and narrowly escaped death in falling from a moving freight train which he attempted to board at Carroll.

Catherine Cooper, aged 3 years, was severely burned when she pulled a tea-kettle filled with boiling water over on her at her home in Nevada. she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Cooper.

J.R. Deel, who recently married Miss Alice Betts, a well known Sioux City girl in Omaha, is being sought by the Woodbury county authorities on the charge of selling mortgaged property. A secret indictment against Deel was returned by the grand jury several weeks ago.

Miss Susie Penrose, of Logan, aged 47, died on the road between Logan and Magnolia on her return from Montana, accompanied by a nurse and relatives. She had been in failing health for several years and went west in the hope of recuperating. The Penrod family is prominent in Harrison county. [transcribers note: surnames typed as in the article]

O.M. Parrington, champion rattlesnake catcher of Waukon, died of injuries received three weeks ago. Parrington, while making a tour of the rocky bluffs along the Mississippi river, slipped and fell, sustaining internal injuries. He lay about ten hours, alone and unattended, and the exposure joined with his injuries in causing his death.

A body, supposed to be that of Orlie Lamb, a former resident of Creston, who was burned to death in Kansas City, was brought to Creston, but the identity of the corpse was questioned by the widow, Mrs. Abbie Lamb, who, on viewing the body, voiced the suspicion that another body had been substituted by the general hospital for that of her husband. As complete identification was impossible because of the burns, Mrs. Lamb was finally induced to accept the body.

William Heillishelm, an experienced hard wood sawmill man of Richland Center, Wis. has moved his plant to the 1500 acre tract of timber at Hart's ranch, at Waukon, owned by Hon. W.S. Hart of Waukon, and the timber will be sawed into finishing lumber, furniture, wagon and sled stock, etc. There are approximately one million feet of oak lumber on Hart's ranch and O.J. Hager of Waukon also has a large tract nearby. The Guttenberg Excelsior company are cutting 10,000 cords of excelsior wood on the Hart ranch, and with the setting up of this saw mill it will become a center of industry. The land is located near Waukon Junction.
