First Lt. Daniel D. Corvelli, whose wife lives at 2906
Nebraska street, has been enrolled as a student in the
instructors indoctrination unit at the Galveston, Tex.,
army air field, Galveston. This school trains combat men to serve
as instructors at various crew training bases throughout the
country. Lt. Corvelli has returned from six months overseas duty
during which time he participated in 32 missions in the European
theater of operations. He was a navigator and was awarded the
distinguished flying cross and the air medal with three oakleaf
clusters. His mother lives in Orange, N.J.
Mansfield J. Kaus, seaman first class, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W.
Rowe, 3312 Egbert avenue, met his brother-in-law, Lester C.
Ericcson, storekeeper second class, on January 31, in the South
Pacific where they both are stationed. They spent two days
together. That was the first time they had seen each other since
they took boot training at Farragut, Idaho, two years ago. Mrs.
Ericcson and her son are residing with her parents at 3312 Egbert
street.
Pvt. Arthur Spink, 901 ½ 19th street, is with the American
forces in the Philippines, according to information received by
his wife. Pvt. Spink has been in the army three years and has
been overseas one year.
Dean Howard Larson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard C. Larson, 1316
Paxton street, has been commissioned as a second lieutenant. He
has just completed training at Turner field, Albany, Ga.
Joe Levine, formerly a technical sergeant, cabled his wife, Mrs.
Sylvia Levine, 819 18th street, he received a battlefield
commission as a result of actions while with the Seventh Army in
Alsace. No other details were given.
James Bookhart, 818 W. Fourth street, has been promoted to the
rank of master technical sergeant. He is an aviation
machinists mate with the Ninth marine aircraft wing now
training at the marine corps air station at Cherry Point, N.C. He
entered service on July 21, 1942.
F. O. Richard J. Rensch, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. REnsch, 1815
Douglas street, has been awarded the air medal for
meritorious achievement in aerial combat over
Germany. He was graduated from Trinity high school and also
attended Trinity college before going into service. He trained at
Chickasha, Okla., and Coffeyville, Kan., before he received his
commission at Moore field, Tex., on March 12, 1944.
Lt. Robert D. Hittle, son of Mrs. Martha M. Hittle, 415 W. Fourth
street, has completed his B-24 pilot training at Gowen field,
Idaho.
S. Sgt. Hugh W. Larson, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Larson, 1415 S.
Cleveland street, has reported for duty at the Carlsbad, N.M.,
army air field after being stationed in China.
Pfc. Charles Montrose, son of Louis Montrose, formerly of Sioux
City, now of Dallas, Tex., recently was promoted to this grade at
the Alamogordo, N.M., army air base.
Pvt. Harold C. Lyle is spending a 15-day furlough with his wife
and daughter at 1721 W. 19th street. He has just completed a
machinists course at Fort Crook, Neb., and is attached to
the army engineers at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
Vincent C. Burns, members of the naval reserve, has entered
midshipmans school at Northwestern university, Evanston,
Ill., where he will take a four-month training course. He
enlisted in the naval reserve three years ago. He is the son of
Mrs. Lucille Burns, 1511 W. 19th street.
Frederick W. Schatz, stationed in New Guinea, has been promoted
to first lieutenant. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Schatz,
2900 Jennings street. His wife is the former Charlene
Fredricksen.
