Lieut. Frederick W. Schatz, serving in the Army signal corps has
arrived in New Guineam according to news received by his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Schatz, 2900 Jennings Street. His wife, the
former Charlene Fredericksen, is in Wilmington, Del., where she
is editing a company magazine for Du Pont Co.
Rudolph Knittel, stationed at San Antonio, Texas has been
promoted from lieutenant colonel to colonel, according to news
received by his father, W. E. Knittel, 918 Douglas Street.
Pfc. Joseph B. Roberts, Jr. who is stationed at the Frederick air
field, Frederick, Okla., is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph B. Roberts, sr., 1311 W. 18th street, on a two-week
furlough.
Cpl. Clarence Heck, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Heck, 2601 W. 19th
street, has arrived in Alaska where he is to be stationed in a
cold weather testing detachment with a radar division.
Pvt. David Heck, recently spent a five-day furlough with his wife
and family at 1004, 19th street. He is stationed at Camp McCoy,
Wis., with the field artillery division.
Second Lieut. Wayne C. Johnson recently spent a four-day leave
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Johnson, 3419 Third Avenue.
He received his wings at Hondo navigation school, Tex. where he
had the honor of being captain of the cadets. He has been
transferred to Langley field, Va. for instructions to radar.
S. Sgt. Basil E. Culver, son of Mr. and Mrs. B.E. Culver, 1903 S.
Olive Street, has arrived at army air forces redistribution
stations 2 in Miami Beach, Florida for reassignment processing
after completing a tour of duty outside the continental United
States. Sgt. Culver was a gunner in the European theater for five
months and flew on 30 missions. He has been awarded the
Distinguished Flying Cross and the air medal with three oak leaf
clusters.
Clarence B Rowe is receiving boot training at Farragut, Idaho,
according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.W.
Rowe, 1613 W. 18th street.
Flight Officer Theodore R. Grier, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Grier,
1619 West Street, is attending the new flight transition school
of the air transport command ferrying division at Brownsville,
Texas. He was a flight instructor for the Graham Flying service
here before entering the service.
James Ross Bolton, cadet midshipman, son of Mr. and Mrs. James C.
Bolten, 1518 Ross Street, is attending the merchant marine
academy at Kings Point, N.Y. On graduation he will be qualified
to serve as a third officer in the merchant marine. Before
entering the school for advanced training he completed six and
one-half months of sea training aboard a merchant ship.
Pvt. Jim Pully has departed for Camp Gordon, Johnstown, Florida,
after spending a 10-day furlough with his wife, and a 5-month-old
son, the latter whom he never had seen. Pvt. Pully is in the
transportation corps.
Pvt. Paul Imboden has returned to Fort George Meade, Md., after
spending a 10 day furlough here with his wife and daughter at
3501 Sixth Avenue and with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Imboden, 3505 Sixth Avenue.
