Our Neighbors:
Alta, Iowa Dale Hayes, who is in the navy and is
taking his boot training at Ottumwa, Iowa, is spending a leave at
the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hayes.
Mr. and Mrs. Phil Moser recently received word that their son,
Don Moser, of Fort Ord, California was raised in rank to staff
sergeant.
Petty Officer First Class Duwaine C. Christensen and Mrs.
Christensen, of Brooklyn, N.Y., have been visiting with Mrs.
Chris Larson.
Danbury, Iowa Lieut. Guy Johnson and his sister, Eva
Johnson, a Red Cross worker, formerly of Danbury but now of
Parkersburg, Iowa met in England recently where both are
stationed. Their father was Clarence Johnson, former publisher of
the Danbury Review.
Top Sergeant Eldon Schweizer of the amphibian engineers, Camp
Gordon, Florida has been home on a 16-day furlough visiting his
family.
Corporal Francis Fuchs, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Fuchs, is
attending army communications school at Fort Knox, Ky.
Elmer Ahlwardt, who has spent several years in the navy and took
part in three major battles in the Mediterranean, has been
advanced to the rank of warrant officer. He is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. E.R. Ahlwardt.
Darrold Rogge, seaman first class coast guard is home on a
furlough visiting his mother, Mrs. Pearl Rogge.
Bill Riecke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Riecke, is taking his
boot training at Farragut, Idaho.
Staff Sergeant Ed Schuyler has moved from Kelley field, Tex. to
Kearns, Utah.
Donald Reimer and John Christopherson, who have completed their
boot training at Farragut, Idaho, are home on leave.
Private First Class Robert Young is home on his first furlough in
four years visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Young. Young
had been stationed in Alaska.
Private First Class Fred Oberreuter of Shreveport, La., is home
due to the illness of his mother, Mrs. Mary Oberreuter.
Sergeant James Cord, who was stationed at Camp Wallace, Texas,
has left for his new post in California after a furlough with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Cord.
Sanborn, IowaSpecial; Delbert Johnston, corporal technician
killed in action January 3, 1944, has been awarded posthumously
the purple heart, which will be presented to his sister, Mrs.
Willard Casey of Boone.
John Nissen, chief petty officer, is spending a leave here with
his father, John Nissen, Sr. and sister, Mrs. Elliot Sheeley. He
has been stationed at Pearl Harbor.
Salix, Iowa Henry Alfred Bertrand, fireman second class,
has returned to Bremerton, Washington after spending a short
leave in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Bertrand.
He has been stationed in the Aleutian Islands and wears a bar
showing that he has taken part in northern Asiatic campaigns.
