Our Neighbors in the Service
Sheldon, Iowa- Wilbur Petitt,, stationed at Farragut, Idaho is
spending a leave in Sheldon visiting his father, Grover Petitt
and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Petitt of near Sheldon.
Sloan, Iowa Raymond Law, who recently completed his basic
training course at the naval training station, Farragut, Idaho,
has returned there after spending a 10-day leave with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Law.
Hospers, Iowa- Corporal Joseph A. Verschoor, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Verschoor, has been selected for enrollment in the armored
school at Fort Knox, Kentucky, for a course in tank mechanics.
Moville, Iowa- Aviation Cadet Dale G. Oleson, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Ivan Oleson has been selected for training as a bombardier in the
army air force. He is stationed at the Santa Ana, California air
base.
Mr. and Mrs. Chris Drevs have received word that their son,
Lieut. Wilbur Drevs, has been transferred from Camp Barkley,
Texas, to Los Angeles.
Miss Edna Monckton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Art Monchton, has
been transferred from Hunters college, New York, to Murray Hall,
Stillwater, Okla.
Robert Widmark spent an eight-day furlough with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. E.W. Widmark. Robert is attending naval officers
training at the Nebraska State Teachers College, Peru.
Capt. Dayton Countryman of George Field, Lawrenceville, Illinois
spent a few days with his mother, Mrs. Susie Countryman, and his
brother, Arded. He came by plane.
Howard Logan, apprentice seaman, visited his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. C.W. Logan. He is in the V-12 program and is stationed at
Westminster College, Fulton, Mo.
Word was received by Mrs. Amanda Reynolds that her son, John H.
Reynolds, is convalescing in the Darnall General Hospital at
Danville, Ky. He has been in the service since April 1942 and
since March of this year he has been in the South Pacific.
Akron, IowaCorporal Lynn Arkin, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.J.
Arkin, has finished a 12-day furlough and reported for officers
training school at Camp Barkeley, Texas.
Apprentice Seaman Ernest Svenson, Jr. of the naval reserves, who
has been training at Minot, N.D., is spending a leave in the home
of his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Ernest Svenson, Sr.
Sergeant Lloyd Degen of Fort Monroe, Virginia, visited with his
grandmother, Mrs. Anna Degen and Aunt, Miss Marie Degen.
Private First Class Francis Bliss and wife of Camp Barkeley,
Texas, visited with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William
Anderson, a few days.
Lieut. Harold Eugene Vanberg, an instructor at the school of
navigation, San Marcos, Texas, is spending a furlough in the home
of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. Vanberg.
Corporal Adolph Hartman, son of Mrs. Margaret Hartman, returned
to Sheppard Field, Texas, after a 15-day furlough visiting with
relatives.
Lieut. Robert Claeys, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Claeys, who is a
pilot in the army air corps and has seen active service in the
Pacific war area, is home on a few days furlough before
reporting at Portland, Ore.
Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Lake have received word their son, Second
Lieut. Arvel Lake, has been sent overseas. He is in the army air
corps.
Aviation Cadet Gene Ogden and wife of San Antonio, Texas, spent a
couple days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ogden, before
being transferred to an air base in Florida.
Naval Aviation Cadet Henry Koch, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Koch,
has finished his preflight training at Athens, Ga. And has been
transferred to a naval air station IN St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Boetger have received word that at a ceremony
held recently at Camp Haan, California, their son, Sergeant
Parnell Boetger, was presented the good conduct medal.
Private Claude Burrell, stationed at Fargo, N.D. spent a brief
furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lowel Burrell.
