WILLIAM CATES.
A heart attack caused the death of William Cates, 58, Monday night in the room where he had lived alone at 607 Ninth street for the last year.
Others living at the house said Mr. Cates went to his room a short time before the attack and complained as he went upstairs that he was short of breath and felt ill. A few minutes later a neighboring roomer heard the man fall.
Mr. Cates, who had been in ill health for some time, expired before the arrival of Coroner J. M. Krigsten. The body was taken to the Westcott-Doughty-Chandler funeral chapel pending arrangements.
