Complaints Made in Regard to Cistern Cleaners
Numerous complaints that cistern cleaners are using cleaning chemicals which leave a disagreeable odor in cisterns after they are cleaned, have been received from residents by the city health department.
Charles Martin, sanitary inspector, said the city had no authority to regulate or prosecute men doing such work simply because they did not do it in a manner satisfactory to the residents.
“If residents wish protection from such solicitors, they should make a written agreement with the cistern cleaners before work is started,” Mr. Martin said. “In that way, if the work is unsatisfactory, the residents have recourse to the civil courts.”
