Capt. J. S. Lothrop returned yesterday from Denver, where he was honored with election to the position of a member of the National council of administration of the Grand Army of the Republic.  Capt. Lothrop said the annual G.A.R. encampment this year was the largest he had ever seen.

There was an awful crowd in Denver, Capt. Lothrop said.  The visitors took many side trips to the mountains.  Capt. and Mrs. Lothrop took a trip 12,000 feet up to the top of the Rocky mountains and encountered deep snow on the way.

Capt. Lothrop left Sioux City for Atchison, Kan., a week ago, where he was called on account of the serious illness of his son, Merton L. Lothrop.  He found the young man out of danger and decided to go to the National encampment, where he previously had made all arrangements to go with his wife.  He joined Mrs. Lothrop in Omaha and they went to Denver together.
