DEATH OF AGED MINISTER.
Capt. J. S. Lothrop (of Sioux City, Iowa) received word yesterday of the death of his aged father, Rev. Alfred Lothrop, at his home in Villisca, Io. Had the deceased man lived until March 18, he would have been 95 years old. He leaves four living children, Capt. Lothrop of Sioux City; Mrs. Bell Lothrop, of Villisca; Mrs. Adra Stephens, of Pasadena, Cal.; and Mrs. Ella Ewin, of Seney, Io. He also leaves a widow, his second wife. Mr. Lothrop resided with his son in Sioux City for one year in 1895.
Born in Rutland, Vt., March 18, 1810, the deceased man removed when a child, with his parents, to Dover, Me., where he grew to manhood. He secured his theological education at the Waterville college in Maine. In 1852 he removed to Illinois, where he preached at Lowell. He moved to Iowa in 1888, locating first in Chicasaw county. Later he moved to Montgomery county, preaching in both places. He was married to Miss Deborah Robinson in 1831. He was married to his second wife in 1892.
Capt. Lothrop will leave for Villisca this morning. A brief funeral service will be held there Monday morning. Capt. Lothrop will take the remains back to the old home at Lowell, Ill., and bury them by the side of the deceased man’s first wife.
