First License for 1932
The first marriage license issued at the clerk of
court's office for 1932 was issued on Jan. 2, to Irvin Leibold
and Victoria Kipp, both of Ft. Atkinson. Despite the new marriage
law, which went into effect July 4, requiring couples to take out
application to wed five days before the performance of the
marriage ceremony, there were 170 licenses issued in 1931, in
comparison to 122 issued in 1930.

Resident Here for 72 Years
In Public Opinion's reference last week to the
eighty-third birthday anniversary of Mrs. John Stortz of this
city, a transfer of figures referred to her as being a resident
of Winneshiek county and Decorah for 27 years. It should have
read 72 years. We did not intentionally wish to deprive Mrs.
Stortz of the honor of having lived in the best community in the
world for 72 years, and we humbly beg her pardon.
